I wouldn't take neverwin's word on that one. I've seen him say he won $2 million in 2005, so he's not consistent with his story. He may have had massive losses on other sites or in live play that he wasn't revealing, because yes, ripping off Newhouse and playing 30/60 and 50/100 doesn't jibe at all with winning that much money.

Neverwin was on ________.com radio not too long ago and he had a funny/sad story about a well known female pro who was staying at his house and would not leave. She was all hopped up on pills, naked, and playing multiple on-line tournies.

Neverwin tried to get her out by removing all the food and turning the heat all the way up but she refused to leave. He barricaded himself in his room for 3 days.

NW is a straight degen. When he had his first downturn at the 30/60 games he emptied the stars account of the guy he moved to LA with (Spyder44) to play poker. After he emptied his account, NW went around pretending to be Spyder asking for loans. This was a couple years before the pills.

From the money he made back in the day not the drugs imo.

I don't understand why you're appealing to people's help now and hope for them to be altruistic and do the one-big-family-thing, while you haven't told anyone that this guy is probably not reliable, stealing money and has been drug-addicted for ages.
Who knows how many guys he lent/stole money from in the meantime, which you could have prevented.

Thoughts from a backers perspective.

-I like to think the online poker world (us) is built on a unique foundation of trust and communication. We are in a special world where teamwork means everything. This isn't the "real" world where everyone knows each other in person, lawyers matter, and contracts are enforced. Loans, stakes, life help, poker help, and many other great things develop from this experience and this forum. 99% of the things that grow from these relationships are great and positive. I surely wouldn't give up all of the great things for the 1% of the people that are scum.

When one person is scammed, I genuinely feel like all of us are. OP made a reasonable loan based on reasonable facts. In the "real" world would a $10k loan to an online friend be crazy? Yes. In the online poker world? No. Our only regulation is ourselves and the integrity of what we do. Most of the times these relationships and deals are great and we all enjoy awesome life experiences. When they don't, we can't act like we are uninvolved and distanced from the situation. In summary, whether or not you all support OP and avoid certain games, I at least suggest supporting OP and realizing that one one of us gets scammed, we all do.

Kind of this, but kind of not. I don't think the Newhizzle scam was much of a well kept secret and I'm under the impression most of the poker community knew about it. That was several years ago. Anyone who has loaned him money since is just downright stupid or careless. A couple of months ago, Neverwin sat me @ a 55 nlhe hu on stars which he lost and then a few weeks later in a 500 2-7 TD hu and won after being below 300 at 25/50 after hitting the most sick rush. Heroin is one helluva drug I guess?

With all due respect, OP, this is more your problem than the poker community. It's pretty clear that he's a scumbag based on his previous history. I'm sorry this happened to you but to try and foist the responsibility on others (and be mystified why the poker community is not refusing to play him) is kind of troubling.

You sir, are dumb and impressionable. First you don´t lend money to people you don´t know. Secondly, if they don´t pay up after your first mistake, this shouldn´t be a surprise. You don´t believe it when stealing idiots tell you ,,the maffia" is after them. You confront the S.O.B. personally and/or go to their home and you harrass them in public. When this doesn´t work you can either decide to let go, or threaten him with ´unkindness´. If you decide to do this and he still doesn´t pay, you have three choices left. 1: Leave and don´t repeat the mistake of lending money to people you don´t know. 2. Become ´unkind´ and leave it at that because the sum is not life-changing for you. 3. Become ´unkind´ and threaten to become even more ´unkinder´ if he doesn´t pay. Beware that this is a potentially dangerous route for all parties involved. The option you somehow never excercise is the ´Whine on a forum´ one.
