His "That works bud" jumps out at me as being synonymous for "thanks for your money". Whole thing just looks so sketchy from the outset. It's not like everything was transparent from the start. It's surprising that many poker players fall for this stuff.

Looking back you're 100% correct. Hard to imagine a guy playing the stakes he's been playing (although he's getting pretty beat up in the high stakes waters from what I've heard) would need to run a scam for a few hundred bucks at a time for...but you live and learn.
I'm living in DC now, so if I want to bet on sports I just have to make a quick trip to Delaware.
