Question Is it wrong to shove on this spot?

Hi, guys!
I've started playing poker for a little over a year and today is my first post and also my first time on this forum.
So, not much experience in the bag, but I do watch a lot of poker videos.
Today I found myself in a spot, wondering if the move I made is ok or not, on long term.
I would really appreciate some valuable insights on this hand, so please feel free to advise.

No info on Villain.
Bounty tournament – SB 200 / BB 400 / Ante 60
UTG 1: folds
UTG 2: folds
UTG 3: folds
HERO: raises to 1120
HJ 1: folds
CO: folds
BTN: folds
SB: folds
BB (Villain): calls 720
Pot is now 2980
FLOP is: 5 3 4
BB (Villain): checks
HERO: bets 1200
BB (Villain): raises to 2975
HERO: raises ALL IN to 20631

BB (Villain): calls 17656
HERO: shows [T T] (a pair of Tens)
BB (Villain): shows [Q A]

TURN is: 8
RIVER is: 2
BB (Villain) wins 44.242

Question is: Is it wrong to shove on this spot?

Re: Is it wrong to shove on this spot?

First off I think BB calling off with this particular holding is mental but it is what it is.

This check-raise can be several things, none of which are top pair (save for 56). If it's a set/2 pair then calling to realize what equity you might have is best; if it's a draw then some people will check turn if they don't get there or keep firing and you can call a non-A. Given that he's check raising so small without A I would just let him keep bluffing.

All-in-all I think this is either a big draw, made hand, or just an A. If you're going to shove then I think it's best on a non-A, non- turn card.

I don't think you can fold here readless, nor would I fold on any turns except like a A or a 2. So between calling and raising, what are the benefits of each? Calling lets you see another card and you still have a positional advantage so if the opponent checks the turn, you can still charge to see the river. Raising should get your opponent to fold out some hands that have good equity against you.

In a bounty tournament, you aren't as likely to chase the opponent off their hand assuming they have you covered. Assuming that's the case here, I think I would take the lower variance route of just calling the check raise then getting it in one way or the other on safe turns. If you had the opponent covered, just go ahead and get it in on the flop and collect that bounty!

You also could have raised less to like 7k and shoved safe turns which is kind of a hybrid strategy between calling and 3 betting all in. It has some of the benefits of both, in that you might deny equity to complete airballs if the opponent has any like QJ and you get to make a decision for your stack on the turn with more complete information if they don't just jam it in on you on the flop. However, given that it's a bounty tournament I feel like you're getting jammed on the flop so much on a board like this that I'm not sure it really matters.

Re: Is it wrong to shove on this spot?

Bet/call flop readless is standard and we play the turn in position. We're more or less flipping vs a reasonable c-r range and by shoving we mostly isolate ourself with the part that's doing good vs overpairs. Except in that particular case, but still he has like 40% with AQ so we're not pushing much of an edge.

Re: Is it wrong to shove on this spot?

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it.
I actually jammed on the flop because of the small check raise, which, to me, looked like either a draw, a small pair or over cards.
I would not put him on two pairs/set, because 2 pairs and sets needs protection on that heavy board and I imagine the check/raise would be a little bigger.

I know the standard play is to bet/call and reevaluate on the turn but I did not want to go to the turn because a big part of the range I assigned to him was made of over cards, and I just wanted to deny that equity.

Your reasoning is decent. I would like the play more if you were shallower.
