When a blockin bet goes wrong When a blockin bet goes wrong

Hi guys

V is 46/23 over 55 hands , dont remember much about him

I thought with this 1/3 bet i could see a cheap showdown as (i thought) any A or even 8 would just call (or even fold !!)....were i just unlucky or is my line of thinking plainly wrong? ; sooooo should i have tried to bet bigger?

I think you need to be clear how weak your hand is by the river - we can't value bet - we can check/decide sometimes catching a bluff - A bigger bet wold be a bluff trying to fold out an 8 or low flush but I would rather check

after checking turn CO's range is like sooted aces, nuts flushes and several monsters like 88, A8s, T8s, TT. our hand is hopeless. id just x/f on the river

river bet is pointless, just check and decide depending on sizing, guy is 46% vpip so I proly have a hard time folding as he does show up with bluffs

UUmm i dont agree completely with your range , he can have some busted QJ or T9...and if you think he calls with A8 why not with a better hand like baby Ace (A2-A5)?

For once guys i dont follow you

You all say we should c/c depending on size but then...are we not allowing villain to set the prize for the showdown that he wants? My thought was "i am not going to pay more than 1/3 to see a showdown because perhaps i am good like 25% of the time" but if i check he can bluff me with far a bigger bet n0?

So when he raises i know i am beaten and it "only" cost me that 1/3 bet....i suppose that you could say that if i fold i win that 1/3 too lol

When you check you allow him to bluff his entire range that gets to the river like this and to play the street for a maximum one bet, when you bet you shut down all worse hands that might decide to bluff if it was checked to and put yourself in a position to be raised.

River bet achieves nothings, it is neither for value or a bluff and looks exactly like what it is, a weak blocking / info bet, if v is good he ca very easy pounce on this weakness

Man that is like the nut low runout for your hand. IDK, you don't really have much SDV here, I x/f river for any bet bigger than, IDK, let's say 300 chips. I think he can bluff 1/7 times, and along the way he'll mix in lots of rive checks w/ his own air and essentially give you a massive gift by letting you showdown for free.

Check river and decide from there. What are you hoping to achieve with such a tiny bet on the river, if you are going to bluff at it you need to bet big.

Squeeze pre, A9o is a terrible hand to play multiway OOP.
