So i just discussed this hand with my father, and he thinks i made a mistake by not leading turn and letting some combinations of two pair and sets get there on the river. I think i got away from the situation with minimal damage, thus i think i should have check-called the river instead.

Would love to hear some thoughts on this hand.

i'd be defending this in the bb, but I think we can fold pre in the sb when bb has a rejam stack and mp is opening into it so he should really have little r/f in his range.

as played x/r the flop and go from there, we really want to be building up the pot when we are at the top of our range

Agree with wow this is a BB defense hand, not a SB hand.

As played I agree with your father you should have bet the turn but not with his reason. You bet the turn to get value from sets, 2p, hands with the Ah/Kh, and even straights (especially ones with a heart).

Once the river pairs you have to x/call. Give him an opportunity to bluff with his weaker hands. Hopefully he wouldn't just overshove the pot when checked to.
