So why are you raising the flop? Nothing better is folding nothing worse is calling

close between a call and a fold vs pot sized bet -I think we should call but fold to another barrel

I didn't want to play passively in a 3way pot with the chip leader still having to act. I was pretty confident Villain's limping range had a lot of hearts and jacks and worse aces I wanted to punish

My mistake was not considering he could limp pre with a better ace than mine.

Check raising that flop is really bad. You have a textbook showdown hand. When you x/r you basically fold all worse hands and get called/raised by better ones.

My first reaction was to fold

I really wanted to punish those jacks and weaker aces, hoped to get paid off more than I would have gotten if I x/called. Villain's action was consistent with a lot of hands he might want to steal the pot with given two other people checked before.
But ultimately I did not pay attention to his stats. When a 25/5 starts to bet on a A-high board...

The flop c/r is not ideal. This hand is a limped pot at a final table with two stacks under 13 blinds. This is really bad. Your stance in this hand should be hoping basically to showdown your hand in ANY capacity. The dude literally bombs flop in a limped pot for pot. It's not like we're even that crazy call. Like what're we expecting villain to pot with 3ways? You should be protecting your c/c range and be c/c or folding every street. C/c flop, c/f turn.
