Tough Decision (For ME) Tough Decision (For ME)

5/10 NL. I am three from the button (Lojack). UTG and UTG+3 limp. I open 6bb with A Clubs, Q Clubs. Get called by button. UTG folds. UTG+3 calls.

5 8 Q rainbow flops. UTG+3 checks. I raise 9bb. Button folds, UTG+3 shoves for 44bb.

Second or third hand in a 100$, 100 player tournament.

I know nothing of the player, think hard for a while, decide I don't want to get coolered by a set early on and am confident in my ability to build my stack later on, so I fold even though i know it's unlikely that I was behind. Q8 suited... QQ, 88, 55... 67 suited... not many combos.

Later on I figure out she is a bluffing machine, call her on a shove. I have 96% equity and she sucks out. Anyways, what's your opinion of my play.

With 29.BB in the pot, folding to a shove of 44BB with your hand is almost always wrong.

AA -> 3 combinations
KK -> 6 combinations
QQ -> 1 combination
55 -> 3 combinations
88 -> 3 combinations
Q8 -> 6 combinations
Q5 -> 6 combinations
58 -> 9 combinations
= 37 / 1325 = 2.8% of hands that are ahead of you after the flop.

Why are you opening 6bb???

if someone is limp calling 6bb in EP and early stage, then check shoving 44bb on a dry Q 8 5 rainbow flop, the Person is not thinking too much About ranges/equity and stuff like that.
the Hand makes no sense at all, no matter if it's slow played AA/KK or some weird Q8/Q5 two pair.
check shoving a set makes no sense either. so it's most likely a weaker Q or Maybe 76

I like the raise pre for 6bb
Cbet seems fine aswell
without a read on V it is tough to call with such Deep stacks and early on. if we don't know what V is capable of, we could run into a Monster or dominate a weaker hand

An over bet (a bet bigger than the pot) is meant to polarize a range. If this player is good, they would be balanced and over bet with their best hands and worst hands. If the player is bad, they would over bet because they have something good and they want to get all the money in without thinking about odds and player types and stuff like that.

If she thought I was a bad player (which most at our table were) and she was a good player, she would call and force me to make a mistake. If she was a bad player and thought I was a good player, she would try to bluff or just fold. BUT if she was a good player and knew I was a good player, she would polarize her range. Even though it seems straightforward call, without knowing the skill level of the other player it actually was really difficult for me to make a decision.
