Shoving 4bb with KJo close to pay jump

$10 Ignition Turbo

32 players remaining, next payout is $28. 4 more eliminations until $36. FT bubble is $54. Just moved to a new table so no reads on anyone.

I forgot to check my exact standing before my play (whoops) but there was at least one shorter stack in the tournament. None were at my table though.

LJ (11bb) limps. Folds to me (3.75bb) on the button with KJo. SB (6.5bb) and BB (9.5bb) to act behind me.

Would you shove this or try to wait an orbit for four more shorties to bust?

We should almost never pay attention to early pay jumps - much of the value of our stack is still the outside chance of one of the big prizes - a couple of double ups can change things esp in a turbo

this is a nice spot to shove as we will very often be flipping in a pot about 3 times original stack so very +EV

Some of my short shoves in my first few MTTs were likely too aggressive since a lot of people call down lighter than they probably should.

In this particular tournament, I was up to 8th in chips (though still <20bb; that's turbos I guess), lost most of it shoving ATo into 88 in late position, and ended up in this spot. It was a little frustrating feeling like I keep messing myself up with unnecessary flips. Though I'm winning these flips >40% of the time, there aren't postflop spots anymore, and I can't think of *that* many better preflop situations anyway, so perhaps that's just standard.

Would you say that in general as a short stack, it's better to just go for as many even/+EV spots as possible unless we're likely to immediately clear a major pay jump by waiting?

Yes - shortstacked - there's a lot of variance - you just have to roll with it or play deeper stacked formats
-the AT/88 hand was probably a +EV play with fold equity even though you ended up as a slight dog. Honestly just let go of the pay jumps until you get to the FT and concentrate on finding +EV spots ( we always want to find +EV though rather than even)

The question is simple
Do you wanna earn more USD cents? Or you wanna have a chance to win the big bucks?

Please, learn the push/fold charts and aim ALWAYS for 1st price. Don't nit it up!
