Middle stage of a small stake MTT 6handed max
Blinds : 2k 4k with 900 ante
Hero stack 140K on SB get dealt QQ
MP (230K) min raise 8K ,Btn (310K) 3 bet to 32K . Hero tanked and decided not to shove but to raise hard to 90K so it did not look like a re-steal or AK.
MP called , Btn called. I was surprised that no on re-shove on top , pre strange
Flop A 8 4 rainbow , Hero gave up and going to check/fold ( will re consider if it was Heads-up ) MP bet small . Btn called , hero fold . Turn blank. They both all in . MP showed AJo . Btn showed 44

Btn end up won the huge pot

I wonder was my play correct ? Should i shove instead of raising there?
Would my shove make AJ or 44 to fold ? When they called 90K raise , they would call everything. It was MP bad not to shove and let 44 get it in cheap. I dont mind getting it in against AJ or 44 preflop

My friend said that shoving will have better EV there ( obviously ) and I should shove instead of raising
My reason not to shove but raising is to show that iam pot committed and I do have a strong hand , so if they have a strong hand then they will re-shove and we carry it on ). There is a small chance players whom miss the flop ( eg , AK on rag flop ) will still manage to fold like i did on A high flop

I wonder was my play correct ? Should i shove instead of raising there?
How could i play this hand better ?

once a raise is more than 1/3 of your stack you should shove
