Final 3 tables of small buyin turbo MTT. I'm above average with approximately 65kat 500/1000. Folds to me on the button with Kd 9d. Raise to 2.2k, sb calls (32k or so).

Flop comes:

10h 8d 4s

Sb min bets out. I call with bdfd and bdsd. I didn't see much merit to raising here, but I am open to arguments in favor of it.

Turn: (Pot roughly 8k)

7d

Basically the nut turn for our hand, sb min bets again. We raise to 6500, he calls pretty quickly.

River: (Pot 21k)

5c

sb checks, ????

Our draw bricked out and sb has a pot sized bet on the river. We are basically at the bottom of our range here with K high which makes a bluff appealing, however a bet on the river reps only 10-8, 44, 77, 1010, 56 imo. I don't know that I even value bet 78 on the river.

Do you follow through with river shove or give it up and showdown what is almost certainly the losing hand?

(Disclaimer: I'm newly returning to poker so I would rely more on others)

In my games with the people I play, I would only bet river if I put them on a pair and if they were on the tighter side. Generally, quick calls indicate draws, especially when followed by a check.

What is weird is the min bets. Maybe the villain has 99? (You block this) Turn gives him open-ended sd and only the ten to be beaten by if he bricks. If I was villain I call shoves with a pair of 10's. I don't believe you have a 6 in you hand, so unless you have a bigger ten, set or J9 my hand is good. All those hands should be in your range and it is a tough decision.

Your turn raise could rep a made hand like J9. I think the key is figuring what is in his range to call the turn raise. Certainly top pair or better, or maybe bottom pair with a flush draw. You block top straights with the 9 and I doubt he checks river with a made straight.

I do think you can remove some hands on the flop with a raise, and it is both cheaper and more effective than it is to raise on the turn. While the turn improved your hands drawing odds, it could also do so for your opponent. The weak opening bet on the flop is very inviting for a raise.

Going through hands potentially in his range after the turn, I came up with 32 hands, 19 of which would call. Given his stack and the pot, I think he calls 59% of the time at least, even more so with if you add in pairs of 8's.

Don't know if this is helpful or not, just my $.02

Something I was going to mention before I went rambling: I don't care for the raise on the turn. If you keep the pot small, you have a much easier decision on the river. You can bluff with a much smaller bet and risk fewer chips. If you end up making your hand you can still get the value on the river. What hands does he call turn with that he won't also call river with? Again, just my opinion, but I think what I would have done differently is either raise on the flop and call on the turn.
