So UTG is weak fish, limping constantly from EP. I have recently seen MP+2 raise to isolate. He does it again here just a few hands later (perhaps one orbit). MP+2 stats seem solid so I assume he is picking up on the same thing as myself and is isolating wide here. For that reason my plan here is to 3bet in order to take the pot down preflop.

1) Firstly how do you feel about this move? Do I need a bigger stack to try this?

2) I think my raise was too small and should be 6.3BB+ ?

3) Because of stack sizes, now if i get called on the flop I'm in trouble. Committing myself with just a bdfd and a gutshot?

PokerStars - 200/400 Ante 50 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP+1: 12.3 BB
MP+2: 33.53 BB
Hero (CO): 31.46 BB
BTN: 26.7 BB
SB: 9.32 BB
BB: 21.43 BB
UTG: 27.07 BB
UTG+1: 63.39 BB
MP: 72.44 BB

9 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.63 BB) Hero has 9 8

UTG calls 1 BB, fold, fold, fold, MP+2 raises to 2.1 BB, Hero raises to 5.2 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, MP+2 calls 3.1 BB

Flop: (14.03 BB, 2 players) 2 T 6
MP+2 checks, Hero bets 9.35 BB, fold,

I dont like this 3Bet at all, would be way better with a suited Hand.

3Bet sizing looks a bit to small to me, i would go personally a little bigger, 6,5 - 7BB would be my sizing.

Also would bet flop 30% on this texture, since it will probably work most of the time on this board. And also to have potsize left for a shove which will loke more scary on a turn like on any diamond highcard, or any A.

I agree with you a suited hand would be better, but I felt that it was extremely likely that villain was raising light here, so do I turn up an opportunity because I don't have the ideal hand to do it?

I agree with you that 6.5+BB is much better.

The bet sizing you advocate makes much more sense.

What are your thoughts on the 2.1x raise from mp+2 with one limper? What type of hands is he likely to show up with in that spot?

agree its much better if we suited, seems marginal at best

Fold Pre with your stacksize, and or shove pre to lessen variance, but overall I'm in the fold pre camp cause of your stack.
