My rationale was that SB was probably stealing fairly widely but I was concerned with the lack of fold equity if I shoved. So with the incredible odds I was getting and a hand that can flop decently, I decided to defend. When he shoved the flop I figured he could still be trying to push me off the pot with a wide range, which meant I could have 14 clean outs (with 8 to the nuts).
