Only getting into tournaments. Cashing but not final tabling just yet.
Playing PKO's mostly as they are popular on partypoker.

This is a hand after bubble I'm sitting at about 50th/80.

I give my Q9s approx 36% against villain shoving range. Villain had 1.5 bounties which adds 2-3% equity. Pot odds 32% approx.

Is this just an easy call at this stage in tournament pre ICM??

The nit in me wants to wait for a more premium hand to call these shoves. It ultimately left me very weak (6BB) and I exited soon after.

Should I not even have raised pre with q9s in UTG+1?

Thoughts very welcome.....

I'm never opening Q9s off 15bb from that position in a PKO when several stacks behind cover me.

Thanks. I don’t have solid ranges for the different stages of a tournament yet. Ultimately the numbers make it a profitable call despite being behind over the long term though.

Moving from cash to MTTs is a big adjustment but moving from cash to PKOs is a whole other level. PKOs are all about the bounties, which creates a completely different dynamic. When you're short you become the bounty target for larger stacks, which means people want to play pots with you. So you have to really tighten up your opening ranges when short.

Thanks. As played it was a shorter stack than me with 1.5 bounties available which influenced my call. Had it been a stack covering me I would have definitely folded. I take the point that maybe I should not even have been there with q9s.

The call is +EV if thinking strictly about chips at that time. I presume with a tournament though this doesn’t apply so strictly when one is jeopardising their chance to progress to bigger prizes?

The call after the 3b is fine, I just wouldn't open it in the first place.

You still go by ev in tourneys but you adjust a little for your tourney life, especially in key spots.
