Hello guys during this 3 day i made it to deep in 2 tournaments , first one was hot 5,50 on Saturday (12.place) and today big 4,40(38. place)

In first tourney i was 8/12 we was on 2 FT's UTG min open with 12bb i decided push 88 with 11bb on cuttof and i get call by BTN(TT) and also from UTG(QQ)i obvs did't hit but question is , can i wait for better spot here and fold 88 or is he really strong if he just minraise from UTG this short .

And scnd tourney i was like 26/38 with 16 bigs on Big Blind , folded around to Small Blind who 3x raise on me so i decided to go all in with A5o and he calls with 99. He's been prety active in mi opinion .

Thanks for advices

If you always get short in this stages I would say you are being passive and probably getting exploited from better players. Maybe I'm wrong but showing with 10-15 here you depend on luck to climb up

Please next time we need stack sizes from all players at least the OR in both hands.
First hand 6 handed with 88 I put all my chips in the middle, there isn't a wait for better because you don't have time
Second hand is tricky, probably his 3x range is polarized so your shove only fold worse and you are crushed vs top of his range. A5o plays poorly post so is one point to shove. Personally I would played the same way as you

Sometimes you just run into better hands. It sucks but it happens.

It is important to stay aggressive at these late stages. Your goal should be to accumulate chips to make a run at the final table, not try to sneak in as a short stack. There really is no meaningful difference between busting in 30th, 15th, or 9th.

Think about it this way: if you make it to the top 30 ten times, which results would you rather have?

1) Bust in 20th-30th 8 times and have two top 2 finishes; or

2) Bust in 8th-15th all 10 times?

Thanks for both replies , i don't think i being too passive i just being more tight IMO because for example i don't wanna play in those stages with hands like KJo or 98s 30-50bb deep especially when lot of bad players are out and you face only solid regs lot of time and lot of time when you get on the flop you are beaten by better dominating hands , i mean lot of players play, open and 3-bet generally top of they ranges at this stage so if you raise KJo from +1 and get called by cuttof you doing bad also if you flop top pair for examlpe KJo on KQ3r so i try aviod spots like this and i pick up only real hands only top of ranges, i can easily fold from 40bb to 20bb if i don't get real hand .. Is mistake to play more tight when you get deep ? Tell for example if you get last 100 plrs from 3k-4k field and you have 50-60bbs , you should open widly ? I might sound like fish but i m just 18 and i ve been playing poker just like 4 months ...

I honestly like both spots. 88, you really don’t want to see a flop so I’m fine with a rip here to realize your equity and hopefully get folds.

Hand 2, Villians should be raising kx/ qx so again im never flatting with a5o here. I’m fine with jamming a5o here. You just ran into better hands. You have to take spots like these to chip up.

If you are deep in a tourney and have a big stack, you want to apply pressure to the Mid sized Stacks who don't want to risk becoming a shorty themselves! So yes try opening wider . Open and put pressure on the shorter stacks, if you get shoved on by a stack and you dont feel its worthy of a call, just fold. in later stages open/fold and even 3bet/fold need to be lines you take and a regular part of your game a good example is:

you are UTG and have table chip lead. and you are dealt K10o
raise fold is defintely a line you can take with this holding.
1 or 2 things are going to happening at this late stage.

1 ) you win the blinds and antes and increase your stack by a few precious BBs
2 ) you get shoved on by a shorty and you cant warrant the call. and all you probably lost was 2.2BB (if you are opening any more than this it will be un profitable over time)

hope that gives you a better idea of table, stack and late game dynamics.

It sounds to me like you're focused way too much on your cards and giving people too much credit for having strong hands. You need to start thinking in terms of ranges and what you represent rather than what you have.
