For a long time I sucked at rebuys and avoided them until I learned to adjust my play. You have to be willing to take more marginal spots early in order to build a stack and then work hard to accumulate chips. If you rebuy multiple times you have to run deep to be profitable, so a "play to cash" mentality will destroy your ROI.

Agree with Star Wars, you can't play them like normal mtts.

You gotta be willing to take flips and build a stack or start over and try again. Other people will also be getting it in light, so there's also a counter argument to play super tight and pick off stragglers.

No matter how you go about it, the addon is basically mandatory (unless it's stupidly structured which sometimes happens) and it's your goal pick up a massive stack and then play normal poker until the end. You're looking to final table or bust. This is not a time to worry about ICM near the bubble, you see a spot to chip up and secure a spot at final table at risk of min cashing or bubbling and you take it.

Always buy in for the max, if they let you top off without busting, you should do that too whenever possible. If it's possible to buy more chips, do it.

The real thing though, is being objective about not putting good money in after bad. Pay careful attention to table dynamics and undersstand when the EV of entering and starting over is no longer perceived as positive and call it a day. A lot of the reason to play these is all the dead money from people who just won't quit and keep rebuying but end up with a short starting stack because blinds have gone so high and just have to jam pre and nothing else. These guys are what makes rebuy tournies so tasty - don't be one of them, recognize that once a rebuy means you'll basically have to jam anything you play pre then stop playing.

But more than anything, these are bankroll killers. Just assume you'll play 5 buyins when you start. Meaning if your normal cap is a $50 mtt, don't do a rebuy for more than $10. Even $10 is stretching it, better to cap off even lower. because you're guaranteed to do the double buyin and then the addon, which can be 3-4 buyins even if you never bust and rebuy.

ok many thanks to all of you i see i need to try and take more risk at the beginning an having enough bankroll for rebuys...you think generally players on replay tournaments are harder to beat and more on the aggro side?
