Hi,

I'd like some input on this hand:

PokerStars - 25/50 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): 58.68 BB
SB: 56.76 BB
BB: 43.14 BB
UTG: 60 BB
MP: 71.12 BB
CO: 76.3 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 8 8

UTG raises to 2.3 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 2.3 BB, SB raises to 10.5 BB, BB calls 9.5 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (25.6 BB, 2 players) K 6 8
SB checks, BB checks

Turn: (25.6 BB, 2 players) 9
SB checks, BB bets 26 BB, fold

BB wins 25.6 BB

I folded preflop cause I read that you need 15x the chips to set mine and I figured this guy's squeeze range was strong. I know 88 isn't a small pocket pair but was the fold correct?

I think so. You’d be calling 8 to win 25. It’s around 7.5:1 to flop a set and you’re getting 3:1 odds. Pretty easy fold regardless of what actually hits. Don’t want to get into huge pots when you’re just set hunting

I don't know what 15x the chips means but with slightly better than 3:1 pot odds, in position, closing the action with almost 60bb's w/88... I think this is a perfect spot to call. Not to mention the implied odds. If he does have a big hand and we do hit set, it's probably unlikely he'll be able to get away from it and you'll be able to win a large pot.
He could still have hands we beat; AK, AQ plus possibility of him "spewin out" w bluffs, weaker hands (not that we should rely on this one aspect but it does happen at lower limits.

Either way, not the end of the world. Folded sets happen!

I think its a fold - its not just Squeezer's range we have to worry about - what is BB cold calling nearly 1/4 of his stack with? Stacks are not deep enough to set mine as people have said and we are going to be struggling to call a flop bet from either villain on most boards

Not really sure why you posted the flop it's irrelevant

Is bb a fish? If so, i’d call

Also do you make this thread if flop is AKQ? Lol

Vs squeeze you can use this "15x" rule if you play only vs one guy.

Vs two guys, if you have a small pair, more than 15x, if you have a big one , less than 15x.

88 in this situation is more like small pair. Still you can take a worse price. A little bit. Let's say 13x. Very roughly...

You can win very big pot, but often you will be against set+. To the SD.... More often in this spot.

Easy fold, you shud only have 2 outs here most of the time.

It means the effective stack size needs to be 15x the amount I need to call in order to be profitable in the long run.

This is where I got it from:

I like blackRain79 too. As played, fold.
Other line possible : 3bet PF. Depends on reads etc... In this specific case I think you would have put money in the pot in best case scenario or you would have been 4 bet and knew it was time to fold. Just food for thoughts.
