Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

Hey all.
This is an awesome guide. Just want to ask advice.
Played about 15MTTs and am ITM and have finished 4th in one.
The thing is I have only played 6max limit and never NL. My stratergy at first was to use same opening ranges as my 6max standard and bet size according to hand strength/board texture- this guide has helped me make adjustments.
Here's for the question - I am currently playing stars FPP tourneys with a $1000/$500 prize pool. There is a max of 20000 entrants but typically see an average of about 3000 players after late reg closes. Are there any adjustments I can take into account or will this guide work just as well?
It has allowed me to hold my own so far!

Why dont the 180s ever run on carbon? Great tourneys no one plays. On stars they were the bank roll builders dream.

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

Well 1st it was cause a $2 reg speed 180 man is the worst thing ever, who wants to win $100 after a few hours of play? Then instead of replacing it, they added a turbo along side it, but removed 5 blind levels and got rid of the antes.

I encourage you to beg with me in the various Merge forums for a turbo $3.30 rebuy 180!!! A $4-5 is also an option, but 3r is good for attracting players of all levels and getting prizepool juicy

good post furo, but so -ev =[ gtfo

edit: op is rly old haha

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

Hey Furo , just wanted to say thx for taking the time to compile this thread.(And everyone who helped Furo). I have read the archived 180t guide by Shaundeeb in the past, and this is just as good if not better. I have a couple of Q.

1) From your exp , What % of fish would you say there is too regs at the 22$ level roughly?

2)Kind of off topic but . I am looking forward to the Miniftops that starts in January. What is your, or regular MTT grinders attitude towards online series like these?

My BRM is terrible to begin with but I think I concentrate on trying to Sataliete/Play too many of these and then feel dreadful when I inevitably Min cash/brick them all.

Is it a case of playing these things should be seen as shot taking,or does the combination of lots of fish, decent guarantees etc mean its -EV if you dont play these when you get the chance?

Since Stars added Antes right from the first blind stage now, what adaption do you suggest?
A great post though, learned a lot!

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

just wanted to add that this guide, even if it may be a bit outdated, helped me a lot in improving my MTT game. i played 16 1$ 180man SnGs so far and got in the money 4 times as 10th, 7th, 6th and once as FIRST! Lets hope this didnt come from variance but from good play :P

I know from other sources about the 20:1 rule. What makes you set 15:1 as a rule of thumb?

Thank you.

Just be more aggressive now early in late position and defend your blinds more often vs all position raises unless your hand has no good equity.

You flop sets around every 8th or 9th time but you will not always get payed in full or lose the hand with the set.
The less likely you are to win a big pot the greater your implied odds have to be to justify the setmine.
Ssmtt players are usually not great.

Also nice to see that the guide still helps people.

Just go with the 20:1 if you feel more comfortable with it.

if you are set mining against a player that has strong/narrow (AQs+ JJ+) range the odds of you stacking them when flopping a set is greater than when set mining against a wide range because the chances of you flopping a set and your opponent hitting hard enough to get all of their chips in as well is less likely. therefore you would need better odds against the wider range

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

Just found this guide, I have just started paying again after a long break due to work and family commitments. I have going TPE but also thought I would check on here for anything. This looks great and just wanted to say top man for doing all the work. Gives me a quick refresher guide.

Cheers
