Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

This is a great post but I think its a little advanced for a begginner. Also I think your over estimating the ability of most players at a $4/180 person tournament. I have played quit a few of those and really nobody plays that complex. I think this post if for hight stake MTT`s,not low stakes.

Good guide. Thanks for making the donkaments harder! I disagree with some aspects but thats just variance in my playing style. It took me a long time to learn some of the aspwcts discussed so beginners should find it useful. You can apply a lot of the the theory here to mtt as well.

Very nice thanks.

The strategy vs position is very helpful. How would you recommend playing in the blinds?

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

I tried to play a few of the 4.40$ 180 man yesterday for a few T$ I had, and I have to say these tournaments are just incredibly soft with 95% fish.

I think he was talking about middle stages.. where your not deep enough to set mine.

Early stages set mine your face off,

but middle stages not deep enough slash aggressive table where limps get raised often

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

I cant edit my last post, so I have a question of fish, why are you raising 4-5 bb from late position with limpers with that hands?
88-AA 4-5x 100%
22-77
aj-ak
...
..
is it not a high bet at that positions? Or maybe the size of the bet is for protect the hand. If somebody can help me.

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

4x + is standard against limpers. Too many times I see people 3x over 2-3 limpers only to get called in 5 spots with a hand like JJ. You size it big in position for a combination of max value and isolation, you always prefer to be heads up or 3-ways.

Re: Non turbo 180s beginners guide – small stakes

1) This guide was done as a purely voluntary effort by furo, along with those he mentioned as contributors - there is no "must" about any updates to it whatsoever. Be grateful that he was generous enough to give so much of his own time to write it in the first place, and that it was applicable at the time of writing and for a long time after that. If you feel so strongly about the need to re-write it then go ahead and do so.

2) As it seems that Stars are still considering subsequent changes in light of the significant volume of negative feedback they have received since the implementation of these changes, there is no certainty that any currently deployed structure will exist in the long term, so the benefits of rewriting of any guides maybe very short term indeed. Re-writes of this and any other guides to specific games should probably wait until there is a reasonable expectation of long term stability in the structures of the games in question.

3) The purpose of the guide was not just to provide readers with a general walkthrough of 180s, but also to introduce many of the fundamental concepts an MTT player should be considering, and also to introduce the basic tools and strategies that a player needs to have at their disposal in order to be regularly successful in MTTs. The non-turbo 180s were, and remain, an excellent training ground to hone MTT skills before moving onto the larger events found in the MTT schedules. In that regard, much of the content of the guide is still applicable to the 180man format in particular, and as a beginners guide to MTTs in general, irrespective of any small variations in blind structure, and an astute reader will adapt accordingly. Remember that the ability to adapt quickly is another vital attribute of the successful poker player.

what exactly do you mean?

the structure is the same again and its still usefull at the $3.38-$11 level.

i was thinking of updating it because of the new structure which would not have been alot of work. its basically just one more line:

"play the same as in the guide suggested until 100/200/20 and then just shove every hand with a face card in it. EZ GAME!!!"
