Hey - new to playing online (or at least first time in 10 years), mostly small stakes tourneys and not having any results so far. Curious how I could have played this better.
$30 buy-in, about 4 hours into MTT
3rd in chips on table with 38bb's
Table leader opens UTG+1 for 2.5bb, folds to me, I defend with Q9off
Pot 6.65bb
Flop Jd 8c 10c
I check call 3.82bb
Pot 14.31 (I have 31 left behind)
Turn 4s
Check, villian bets 7.2bb, I raise to 17.8bb, villian 4-bets me all-in, call
Turns over pocket tens for trips
River is 8s, Full House beats straight
Appreciate any insight. Trying to improve my middle tourney game to run deeper. Thanks!!!

Q9o is close against early position open, but generally ok defend against one opponent. Hand history being a bad beat story derails thread. Real questions in these defend spots is when, whether and/or how to go broke with top pairs or draws and whether to fold weaker one pair hands against second bet made by opponent, when to reraise bluff etc.

Assuming antes, it is probably a defend, but close because ep raise and relatively large raise sizing.

If you look at an equity realization heat map for this spot you will get ~64% for Q9o
Q9o vs 66+,A4s+,K9s+,QTs+,J9s+,T9s,AJo+,KQo has 33.8%
33.8% * 64% = 21.6%
pot odds = 1.5bb/6.65 = 22.6%
because pot odds > Equity it's a fold pre
