Not much of a tournament player so wanted to get some strat from some regs so here goes.

9 handed-120 ante
blinds 600/1200
still 177 players left
Hero start hand with 21600
Villain has 26700
Hero in the BB with K3
Utg open to 2400
hero flats 1200 more in BB

Not entirely sure if i should be defending this here
Flop K78

Hero checks villain bets 3180 into pot 6360
Hero calls
turn...2h

Hero checks,Villain bets 6360 into 12720
Hero??

So still trying to understand concepts in MTTs but should we be folding pre and AP is this a fold on the turn. Any help is appreciated

Calling preflop is fine vs a min-raise, especially with antes in play.

You should jam the flop. When you have under 20bb any top pair is going to be good enough to go with. When we jam we don't allow V to realize their equity and take down the pot a significant portion of the time. When we call the flop we put ourselves in awkward situations like this on the turn where we have less than a pot sized bet left which means we basically have to go all in or fold.

Against a middle/late open I defend this all day but against a utg open it is very high risk due to the greatly increased likelihood of being dominated. Absent a read that he's opening wide, villain's range is going to be tight enough that hitting your K will get you into deep trouble (as it has here).

As played shoving the flop is a bad idea. Villain will fold everything you beat and call with hands that have you crushed. So I agree with gambonee.

in retrospect this is definitely how i analyzed the hand. Even with blinds and antes and getting a great price(which is the reason i callled in actual time) I felt UTG range will have us smashed and have all the better K's plus the medium pp(77,88).

I just dont play many MTT's so was just wondering how wide to defend BB vs UTG.
AP i think i should be calling flop and folding turn also. Villain shouldnt double barreling range will have us crushed.

Thanks for the input

Wide but not with dominated hands. This is a great spot to defend with tons of crappy suited connectors and gappers, and even some unsuited ones. Hands like 86s/75s/63s/65o/53o etc can flop huge against a UTG range.
