Hey folks, looking for some advice.

I’m having trouble with the mid-stages of tournaments and I think my issue is not loosening up fast enough, in keeping with the blinds. Then I overcorrect, open way too wide, and go out even earlier.

What do your opening ranges look like for the middles of tournaments, when you and/or most of the stacks are something like 30-50BB?

FWIW, while I play other stuff, I’m mostly thinking about small daily tournaments at charity rooms and casinos in Michigan (~$40-$80), with lots of calling stations and lots of limping.

Thoughts appreciated!

Well, I thought there could be a general polite discussion of strategy on a strategy discussion board...?

yes, that is strat forum, but u specifically want opening ranges for 30-50BB stack size..for each position? That's too general question. If you want to have polite discussion, maybe you can expose your current ranges and let community comment on it.

OK, now that’s fair. So, for example, in middle position, 10 handed, with ~40BB over limpers or when folded to me, how about this for an open range—about 22%. Or do others open more loosely, like any A, mid suited connectors? A2s+?

Ranges in a vacuum are not the greatest way to approach mid game. By this point you will have a table with many stack sizes in many positions relative to you. Sometimes you are in lockdown (big stack to my right and all 20bb stacks to my left). Other times your approach is a good idea (I am big stack or we are all even stacked still). These factors should be pushing and pulling your range tighter and wider the more the stacks deviate from all equal. Since the table dynamics are so fluid, you can't really offer a cheat sheet for this idea.

I would add more suited aces, suited connectors/one gappers to the baseline range, for example
22+, A2s+, A9o+, K9s+, KTo+, Q8s+, QJo, J9s+, 65s-T9s, 97s-T8s

You have to know your baseline range so that you can adjust it depending on the table dynamics, etc. Knowing your range is the foundation of the solid, balanced game, it's not a cheat sh*t.
