$11 Tournament. Start of tournament. Effective stacks 167bb. No information on the players.

Hero is in the SB with KK. UTG open 4bb, UTG+1 raises to 40bb, Hero jams 167bb. UTG+1 calls with AA.

Is this play standard? At what stack depth are we comfortable to stack off with KK.

Is it better to 4bet small and call a jam with KK?

Are we 4bet folding JJ, QQ, AKo, AKs at that stack depth? I do not expect people to have a 3bet bluffing range at these stacks for that size.

That is very standard, I'm not folding KK to a guy who 3-bets to 40bb in an 11$-tournament. We are never doing anything besides shoving if we continue here.

Start of an $11 online tourney I'm probably stacking off with KK at virtually any stack depth. This isn't the WSOP Main. You can't fold KK, especially to such a bizarre 40bb 3b, and calling to see a flop doesn't get you any further ahead when you're up against AA. People do all sorts of stupid stuff early in online MTTs.

standard, first few hands in a microstake tourney people are shoving hands like JT

you can't blame them either, for a rec it's optimal to either start off a lolstakes tourney with a giant stack or end it asap as there's nothing worse than investing 3 hours into an mtt to min cash for $6 profit, for the recs it's better to bust out in hand 1

you're always getting it in with hands like KK first play

This. I may not want to stack off w/ AK early on but KK def not a fold here.

How are you playing QQ in this spot? Shoving it in for 167bb or small 4bet folding?

AK+/QQ+ is insta shove

AJs+/99+ is where is becomes a real decision about flipping in a possibly dominated spot

you guys are deeply underestimating just how wild west first few orbits of a low buyin tourney is, there's a huge school of thought among recs to just get it in with first marginal hand to either bust out and move on with your day and be in a good position for a good run

people regularly flip of KT, J8s, 33, etc in these spots

think about the guy who is either playing this tournament or heading over to his friend's place for a bbq, not the guy who's going to grind all day and play a full schedule

that guy going to the bbq doesn't want to play 3 hours and not even finish in the money that's absolutely the nut low for him to spend a bunch of time playing and not even cashing, he's more than ok with busting out in first few hands and then just logging out and having some beers with friends

I would go AI first hand with QQ, but not AK.

Some V are gambling like Rickroll said.
But some other just don't know that TT is not a super-strong hand.

I believe ignorant villains overestimate pocket pairs a lot. Some of them also overestimate AQ or AJ, but not that much.

So their range is PP heavy, and you're in a better shape with QQ than AK imho.
