Hey everyone,

I have been playing poker now for probably a year and have been grinding MTT's and am running pretty even. I know I still have a lot of holes in my game, but for small stakes I feel like I am playing above average and have the potential to be a more profitable player. My questions should I be playing more aggressive and taking more chances to get further in tournaments? My in the money is at 27% with a 80,000 hand sample size.

Thanks

That is relatively high ITM% but that doesn't necessarily mean much on its own. There are a lot of variables to take into consideration, for e.g. would need to know how often your reaching top 5% and if both numbers were high then your crushing and carry on but if you're min cashing everything you'll probably always break even. Obviously there are loads more variables too such as bankroll, stakes, individual icm decisions etc. But I think you definitely need to provide more information for anyone to be able to answer this.

I think making the money 27% of the time with 3.2K average entrants in your tournaments is really good.

ITM% is irrelevant in MTTs. That's likely part of your problem, playing to cash rather than playing to win. It doesn't matter how often you cash if you're not making money. MTTs are all about deep runs because that's where the money is.

So stop paying attention to ITM%, stop playing to cash, and start getting more aggressive in the mid-late stages. Your goal for every MTT should be to aim for the final table.

Its not about your ITM% at all. Its about FT % and how often you close when you get there. With an ITM this high there is no way your style allows for FT closure rate that is good enough to be profitable.
