should I have just shoved or 4x bb when first to act? that player with A8 probably thought i had AT or something and tried to iso but i had a pretty good hand and if i did the math correctly on icmizer it was a correct call.

yeah pretty standard call unless you're on a final table. could even find a fold with TT here sometimes but i think JJ is basically always a call

Absolutely calling with 99 prob 88 - this BB shove can be a wide range

why would you want to 4x or shove here OP? you don't want people to fold their weak hands

BB can't shove that wide given the BTN is all in for like 7 blinds.

BTN 7BB shove over a CO raise looks like a pretty wide range ,maybe something like 22+,A7s+,KTs+,QTs+,JTs,A9o+,KTo+,QJo

BB can shove with only slightly tighter a range thinking we're mostly going to fold and they'll be up against BTN with great pot odds. something like QQ-55,A9s+,KTs+,AJo+,KQo seems reasonable KK+ will usually flat or reraise smaller but even if they're left in the range 88 would be a call given pot odds. V's actual hand is outside this range but not that much of a surprise imo

I think some of you over estimate shoving ranges these spots. Admitidly nash ranges are very loose. My ranges and solution

hero opens 23% 33+,A2s+,A8o+,K7s+,K9o+,Q9s+,QJo,J9s+,T9s,98s,87s
BTN shoves 13% 33+,A8s+,ATo+,KTs+,KQo
BB shoves 8% KK-66,ATs+,AJo+,KQs

hero calls 4.7% 88+, AQs, AKo

w/ AQs & 88 making only about 1bb. ICM not considered

BB can definitely shove wide here. Any broadway, most pocket pairs, any AXs, and Ax down to probably 8 to isolate. Especially since it’s a button shove.

Explain why you think bb wants to jam 38 blinds to have us fold and just be all in vs btn? If we call off as people here want to then his wide shove is even worse.

I'm surprised to hear people have all this info that a random in a low stakes mtt where we have no reads is shoving so widely and isolating.

Also seems nash agrees with my call range even against "loose ranges" which means you're calling even tighter than shown.

The bb shouldn't have all suited Broadway's but can have 4 combos of KQs yes I agree potentially. He def shouldn't shove any ace tho. Realistic bb shove range is like 99+/AJs/KQs and maybe throws in an A5s for balance and cause blockerzzzz.

Finally while we're here you wanna you wanna balance ranges with bluffs to have blockers from the bottom of your open/fold range but not all the combos. So A9s is in our r/f range but it's not the bottom. So instead of A9s we are A5s and pick how many combos we need of bluffs (obv can be 1-4). If we want more we can add A4s cause it's at the bottom of co open range for aces (blockers) and can flop better than A8s etc.
