Literally the first hand of the tourney.

PokerStars - 15/30 Ante 4 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 166.67 BB
Hero (SB): 166.67 BB
BB: 166.67 BB
UTG: 166.67 BB
UTG+1: 166.67 BB
MP: 166.67 BB
MP+1: 166.67 BB
MP+2: 166.67 BB
CO: 166.67 BB

9 players post ante of 0 BB, Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.7 BB) Hero has 5 4

fold, UTG+1 raises to 2.73 BB, fold, fold, MP+2 calls 2.73 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 2.23 BB, fold

Flop: (10.4 BB, 3 players) 8 3 6
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets 5.3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 15.8 BB, UTG+1 calls 10.5 BB

Turn: (42 BB, 2 players) 3
Hero bets 19.97 BB, UTG+1 calls 19.97 BB

River: (81.93 BB, 2 players) 4
Hero bets 32.57 BB, UTG+1 calls 32.57 BB

I don't usually call hands like this in the SB but we're super early, quite deep, and it's such a pretty hand.

When he fires his CB it becomes a fold or x/r spot because I don't have enough equity to play it as a draw, and the flop is a perfect one for a x/r because I have the range advantage and can barrel so many turn cards.

The question is whether I should give up on the plan when the turn pairs because it's a less threatening card to villain (he would probably expect me to slow down if I had a boat).

Next question is what to do on the river, as played?

I'm ok with the turn bet, although it's probably close.

River, I understand a blocker bet here but I'd much rather check/fold. V usually has over pairs here and I'm not sure he's going to bet AK/AQ here if you check.

People generally don't fold too much in the smaller buy ins, and the board didn't get that much scarier for an over pair so I would probably give this one up on at least the river. The turn bet is fine as he could be calling with AK or AQ after the cr on the flop, unlikely but possible. Once he calls the turn bet though it's probably time to shut it down, but I don't absolutely hate the bet as 57 did get there. In a bigger buy in tournament against a more competent player this play make very well work in getting an over pair to fold.

Yeah it's just always hard to pull off a bluff when you're repping exactly one hand. The 4d falls instead and I likely get him to fold.

just fold pre, esp early stages playing tight from the sb in generally correct oop. We can look at minimum bb def freq but sb is fine unless its bvb considerations

These type of spec hands are better played at its top end like T,9,8 x3 or less gappers because they have less rev implied and we can actually stack lower spec hands like the ones you are actually playing with better 2p+ also being oop has some consideration as we will realise less +Cev with this hand in this spec seat overall.

Being the aggressor with good spec hands are usually a better option then playing them in a passive fashion overall unless we feel we can gain heaps of ev after the flop maybe its the player type or hand type.

Your logic seems quite solid but I do not think it's going to be relevant when playing such a small buyin as the opponent is probably barely considering your range , range advantage. There more likely to just look at their hand and I think I have an overpair/top pair , that's a good hand , I'm not folding. I think the call pre is fine especially this deep and in a tournament where the average player becomes too tied to their overpairs/ top pairs and so on . I think you can check call flop as you are getting 2-1 in a spot where you still have roughly 35% vs his overpairs ( and also major implied odds). I don't like your turn bet as villain is calling once again with the majority of his range (flushdraws/pairs/overpairs).
