$85 live tourney. 15 remaining. 6 spots pay.

1000/2000 300ante.

Hero (38k, 19bb) in cutoff with J10hh.
Folds to hero. Opens to 5500.
[relatively tight] Small blind (~60k, 30bb) 3bets to 13,500. Hero calls.

Flop K83 rainbow. Small blind bets 12k. Hero folds.

Some questions:
On this stack size is J10 suited a limp so that I can call a raise with a reasonable SPR? Should I just open fold from the cutoff?

I'm learning donkaments. It's going medium.

I have heard Ben CB (pro) say it is okay to limp your middling suited connectors in late position if the table is loose passive. and i think this is extra important to remember in live play because min raises don't really accomplish much.

that being said I think JTs is too strong and we only have 20bb. shove preflop is probably also +EV

Ugh this sucks. I fold. I want to shove flop. If I had A5hh and there was a heart on the flop I'm all in. Villian is turning his low pp, Ax hand into a bluff here a lot. Rarely has Kx. How can he call your shove? I'm letting him hang himself here with any good hand and raising all in with Ax ideally with a bd flush draw. Picking up a nice pot a lot of the time.

Open shove pre is good and not exploitable. As played we need to fold vs a 3-bet.

Shove flop is extremely bluffy I'd bet/call AQo most of the time if I'm vilain. You're explaining yourself why : you're calling with good hands, so raise is very weak.

Your open sizing is way too large, I'd open about 4500. And with 19bb you can't be calling a 3b for 1/3 of your stack and folding postflop. One of the advantages of opening smaller is that you would face a much smaller 3b and can afford to make the call.

I think knowing fold frequencies (as best you can) of your table with respect to open sizes late in the tournament is extremely important. There are players that do not adjust their fold frequency based upon your open size. Then there are players who will almost defend any two cards vs. a min raise but fold to 2.5x Opens.

I think I prefer shove-->Limp-->min raise-->fold preflop, and I'm folding to this player type's threebet. You can expect him to show up with a bunch of premiums and there's way too much reverse implied odds of you flopping a J or a 10 and going broke.

If you are going to open it this big with 19bb, you might as well shove it in yourself.

Minraise>OpenShove>Fold>~3BB-ish open

I think the optimal line here is to open fold. If you were say around 25bb deep I'd like an open to 4.8k and then call to a 3bet like that. When you're below 20bb deep you should really be only opening hands you're willing to get all in with, or just open shove.
