Would love some preflop and flop input. The combination of vill's stats and sizings truly confused me in the hand and lead me to take a conservative route on both streets.

Yeah, so rare to see bet sizing like that these days. With 121 hands in your database do you have any info about his CB tendencies?

Vill cbets 78% (7 out of 9)

Also of note: vill has opened 0-for-15 from MP

i 3-bet preflop:
1) prevent SB/BB from postflop
2) V has enough 22-99 pairs and Ax in his opening range to 3-bet for value

I feel a little awkward with these stack sizes to 3bet

We 3 bet for 12 BB and 1/3 of our stack is in. V shoves....and I guess he is shoving with the part of his range that we are way behind/flipping...not a situation I like lol

if we just cold call we play :

+IP
+with a more comfortable pot size (and stack size)

As played...it´s so weird a line I prefer making a small mistake folding than making a bigger one putting myself near commitment without knowing where I am really at

oh sh*t, haven't noticed the opening size 4.2BB...is it his normal opening size?

I think it helps to go back to your original motivation for calling pre, which is presumably because you think you're ahead of his range and have position (and I agree 3-betting here is problematic).

When you call pre you have to expect a CB, especially from this player, so does the CB size change anything regarding your preflop rationale? In other words, do you no longer think you're ahead of his range?

Even though he hasn't opened from MP yet in 15 hands, that's a small sample and his overall PFR is 15. So if he cbets a good portion of that range, there are going to be lots of overcard combos and worse pairs in his range here. So I think you have to continue.

The question is whether to call and see what he does on the turn. The risk there is you will likely face a shove if he barrels and you don't want to see any A/K/Q/J fall. So the other option is you just shove yourself. The risk there is you run smack into the best part of his range. However you do have backdoor diamond outs and a couple of set outs in that case.

I think I just shove and hopefully end it here.

I think I would have GII against a standard cbet, but this pot-size cbet froze me. I also assume vill is committing himself which I think might remove AK/AQ from his range. Just seems like this large/committing sizing reflects overpairs and sets/2Ps over-protecting. I clearly do poorly against that range, but maybe it's "monster under the bed syndrome" for me PF and OTF.

That's my first instinct too, but it seems super exploitably weak to say, "Well, he potted the flop so he must have JJ-AA." I think I would need more info about his betting tendencies to feel confident enough to fold there.

I used to fold in spots like this all the time and I've been working on not being such a pussy. But maybe I've overcompensated in the opposite direction. I don't know.

If he has JJ/AA would he ever bet pot? maybe just JJ. Sets would check or mini cbet. Where I play (PS 0.55/5.50 mtts/sng) I put an aggro unknown in A7 or a draw or smoke

Fold pre, his big raise likely means a big hand
Given your play, since u called pre and the flop is pretty dry... raise flop and get it in
