Hi,

This situation comes up a lot. I'm in late position with an okay hand and I'd like to raise but there's players ahead of me looking to shove ASAP. I usually fold hands like these but is that the correct play or is it better to raise and then fold to an all-in? I didn't want to call a 9BB shove with this hand but maybe it's the correct play?

Depends on two short stacks. If they are both massive nits I'd consider it. If any of them are regs prob a good spot to fold. Default with 20BBs (or close to) is to open pretty tight and not open this combo, but as always is table dependant.

I would raise / call the shortstacks and fold to BB as default - would only fold this if BB is v aggro - no way can we r/f to 9BB shove.

Yeah pretty much this. Openfolding is too tight and we can't fold vs the shortstacks either.

We are probably not ahead of their shove range so what should be my thought process? Do I have the necessary pot odds to call their range?

I'm not even sure if QJo is in my standard open range from the CO.

I'm open shoving this all day!
You're shoving for 17bb's effective.
I choose shoving over min opening because I would want to discourage the bb from 3-bet shoving with a hand like a weak ace or Kx. I want THEM to make the decision to possibly call off with a hand like A3 etc...

We can't always be in a position where we raise/call ahead of their shove range. We WILL be in situations where we raise/call behind vs. shortstacks. You're going to win the blinds here a ton.

While open shoving is +EV, I think it's a very clear spot to raise/call vs the shorties (given that they're not supernits) and fold if & when several opponents decide to GII.

Have to raise QJ here -- you're going to blind your stack down if you're not opening up wider than that in LP, even with the possibility of short-stacks jamming.

R/c the short-stacks and R/f if BB pushes (or both shorties jam). Only time you should consider open folding is if literally every pot is getting 3 and 4 bet.

Why you are afraid then? You have some "info", some knowledge. You will make a correct decision. This is a strong hand. In this situation. This is not "the bottom". I will use many weaker hands. But I will not say which hands obv. In this topic.
