Final table Global $5.50 rebuy, 8 remaining

Blinds 3k/6k
SB 77k 13bb
BB 215k 36bb
HERO 167k 28bb
UTG1 122k 21bb
LJ (Villain) 131k 22bb
HJ 53k 9bb
CO 56k 10bb
BTN 261k 44bb

Hero ATo raises 12k, Villain calls, blinds fold

Flop (37,800) Ad,Jc,8d

Hero bets 9k, Villain raises 64.8k (53.6k behind). Hero?

Global so no hud, but villain had been open limping somewhat loose, maybe 15-20% of hands. Had only played 20ish hands with V but no 3bets or pfr. SPR is 3 with tpgk, and lots of draws available, but that raise is more than psb and little chance he's folding.

Your UTG here? Fold pre. As played easy fold

I don't think ATo is a fold here pre. I'd also bet more on the flop. 9k is just way too small given you have range advantage.

I see it's a final table now. I think it's closer than I did before preflop. I'm honestly slightly less sure but I'd prob still open it cause we put heavy icm pressure on people and the shorties aren't going to be jamming "light" imo. Interesting spot tho. Hopefully others chime in.

Pre probably depends on how much of an ICM bully BB is.

Flop is a snap fold. He made it easy for you with his silly sizing and it’s not like he has a range with enough air to be getting wildly out of line. I actually dont even think you have a range advantage.

I'm folding pre, given that we're raising into the big stack on an FT and there are 4 reshove stacks on the table. I'd disagree with killer_kill in that people aren't jamming "light" here - I definitely see people people committing ICM suicide all the time with short stacks in these lower buy-in tournaments.

As played the cbet is too small given we're OOP. Makes it super easy for villain to float with all kinds of flush draws and gutshots. If I had a value hand (AA, JJ, 88, AK, AQ, AJ), I'd definitely be looking to make it a 2 street hand vs villains stack size. I. e. bet big flop, shove good turns. Personally I'd be really value heavy with this line, but in a $5.50 I would not sacrifice two thoughts of worry towards that.

If you open UTG you have a massive range advantage and wouldn't need to be value heavy on this flop since you'll have every set/AJ/AK/AQ/ to protect your KQcc type hands and we can also bet stuff like 77/99 to fold out overcards+gutshots etc.

Given the two bigger stacks are btn and bb, I agree I should have thought more about folding UTG. Though the table had been somewhat passive and I had run up my stack by being active.

There are enough draws I agree that sizing up is better on the flop, my thought was I was betting small with my entire range here, but my range is pretty value heavy from UTG.

Missed that the btn was CL. Yeah I think fold now. The two most able to play back are in prime position.

Thanks all for the feedback -- I think the correct answer is to fold preflop and stay out of tough oop spots.

Flop is definitely a fold. Unfortunately, I thought villains range had enough flush draws and worse Ax...so I jammed instead. I'm not totally convinced that's wrong, but it's still a total ICM punt. And in this case he had AJo.

Jamming flop there is massively overplaying your hand and only getting in against better and folding out all his bluffs.

"and lots of draws available"

Shove imo...Pre can be a good OR. Depends on the players. Vs some can be raise-fold, vs others raise-call. I like this hands. I mean Ax...Even A9o can be good, Axs. Vs some players weak Axo...Also depends on your "image". LJ is not so "early" position. I said that, because I saw some other opinions. I think ATo is pretty strong hand, good for steal. Close to KQo. Worse playability, but actually better blocking effect. In theory KQ have better blocking effect, but in reality I think vs ATo more often you will face a call, you will see the flop more often. And ATo have better equity vs AI, you can call vs some players. With KQo very rare...

"Hero bets 9k"...

I saw this now. Fold then...But this is a mistake. Imo...Big bet and shove OTT. On some cards OTT will be check. The Jack OTF actually is good card for you. If you don't know that..."Ad,Jc,8d" good enough , but not with this small bet vs passive player.
