Steaming from a hand with 13 left in GlobalPoker's $4K guaranteed.

My question is whether I got unlucky or should have flatted or even folded preflop rather than gone all in.

Blinds are 1500/3000 with a 100 ante.

Hero is on button with AKo. Has 39K.

EP1 goes all in for 22K.

Cut off calls 22K out of his 42K stack.

Hero considers flatting b/c I believe Cut off will call my shove if I do it. But I think - first place is $1400, I have 13 bigs, and I'm already in the money! YOLO!! And I shove. Cut off thinks then calls.

EP1 shows AJo (21% equity)

Cut off shows A9 spades(24.11% equity)

Hero has AKo (51% equity)

Is there an argument I should have flatted pre flop? Or maybe even gotten away from it for ICM reasons?

I see that if EP1 had an underpair like sixes his equity is now 42% and mine drops to 33%. And I for sure would have gotten away from any bets on a monotone flop like that.

you have 13 bb's... You cannot fold your way to first place by always looking for "a better spot"!
With 13 bb's you need to be looking for spots to gii and not looking for reasons not to.

ICM applies in close situations. This isn't close, you probably knew already how stationy the CO was.

You can't flat AK there because you need to see all 5 cards. And folding AK with 13bb and still 13 people left is crazy. You're rarely going to be a huge dog in a spot like that.

You cant really fold AKo here event if its FT bubble. Remember, if you want to win the tournament you have to put yourself into good spot on FT. Having around 10bb is not good spot so you have to take risks. Dont try to fold your way to the 1st place, it doesnt work like that

I think you must shove altho grinding global poker is the real mistake in this spot.

I don't think you can ever fold AKo in this situation and be correct, unless you just have the dead live read on somebody.

cmon dude, folding AK in all but some very rare spots is almost always a mistake

get it in and hold next time
