I think this is one of those hands that I would 3-bet preflop.
AP x/raise OTF

seems like a pretty std defend pre

Thats definately our flop when it comes to bb range advantage, so lets x/r now and barrel off

Flat pre. Our 3b frequency is going to go thru the roof if we start 3 betting hands like this out of the bb vs mp open. X/r flop.

40bb effective - if we x/r the flop and villain shoves, you're happy getting it in as a likely 2:1 dog? Our hand isn't nearly as strong as it looks against villain's getting it in range, but it also seems too good to x/r and fold to a shove.

So I'm fine with the hand as played, although the river is a low percentage play.

My new philosophy is we never play enough hands throught our life against the same environment - stack sizes, position, no of players, tournament stage - to justify worrying about frequencies. So, f*ck balancing, apply common sense and play right now. We 3-bet for bluff vs HJ 40BB with very playable hand. If he doesn't fold, we still in a very good shape postflop. I found it's much more effective and simple approach than thinking about mythical balancing. In small stakes at least.

If he wants to overjam 20k behind into 9k pot inc bounty vs our flop x/r range im happy for him to do so.. we would easily come out on top in this scenario.. we have an easy fold when we at the bottom of our x/r range and an easy call when we on the top, it makes our desicions really easy and allows us to play perfectly.

We need to pick some non value hands to include in a flop x/r range, this is a perfect candidate for just that as we are up and down with bdfd and 2 overs and we block some of his value hands like 99,JJ. Also this texture hits our range much better than his so we need to exploit this fact.

It isn't exactly an overjam. If he has a hand he's willing to go with, 4b jamming is the natural play after you x/r. He's not going to 4b to 12k or whatever when he has 20k behind.

But my point is hero's hand is more of a middling draw, not strong enough to gii but also too good to play as a bluff. We're not quite at the bottom of our range here. If I had something like 55 or 43dd, then I would happily x/r and fold to a shove.

Problem with bluffing river is he knows he induced a bluff after checking back turn. Doesn't matter if you cant have any bluffs (you can here), he induced in his mind and is ready to call sensible bets with anything marginal, and you can't overbet here.

I'd always lead turn here if I didn't raise flop for the reasons Darth_Maul stated. If deep we're playing a big pot from the flop. He has no business cbetting.

if we x/r PBS otf, then V needs to defend by either shoving or calling 50% of the time to make x/r break-even(as a bluff). I really don't think that he can scrape 50% of value hands on this board with his perceived range:
22+,A2s+,K6s+,Q8s+,J8s+,T8s+,97s+,86s+,76s,65s,54s ,A9o+,KTo+,QTo+,JTo

For some reason I thought you were shorter and the river bet was all in.

Raise flop or lead turn. As played if you like a bluff, overbet and give him something to bluffcatch.
