Donk Lead Turn and River Weakness Donk Lead Turn and River Weakness

Really enjoying the feedback on my other hands. Here is another one that I wanted to get feedback from the group.

This one is a OOP hand in the BB where I decided to defend/flat with 9Td versus 3bet which I think I considered since this player had folded to a 3bet before, but my 3bet rate was 10% (I know....no need to balance at these stages, but I had been pretty active and aggressive when in hands...my stats at this time of 57 hands was 18/12/10).

On the flop, I decided to check-call with second pair. Not sure if that's controversial.

The turn gave me a diamond draw and I wanted to experiment with donk leading the turn so I bet half pot both to take the lead and refine villain's range a bit more. I think I'm defining my hand to exactly what it is which is pair and flush draw and I'm putting the villain on ATo+ and maybe QQ+ or 55 or 66 but doubtful.

On the river, I was planning on check-calling as a bluff catcher but lost my nerve with the 1/3 pot bet which looked value heavy and made the fold.

So I would live some feedback on my turn & river play. Would it have made more sense to simply check-call all the way down?

Thanks in advance.

It's nice that u want to implement a leading strategy but this isn't the board to do it. UTG range is so strong here !

Look for dynamic boards with lots of draws and good card to barrel off in the next streets like 8d6d5c or 6d6s7d...

AP, check /call flop , turn and check/fold river unimproved

Lead turns that change equities to the extent that the cbettor cannot be expected to barrel turn at a reasonable freq. Board pairing and very connected cards for instance. Don't forget to mix in strong hands.

Eitherway this is a perfect hand to check call. Consider the flush draw a nice card as it makes your hand very easy to play. It takes 9x from a marginal turn check call to a clear turn check call and if he triples river it becomes an easy fold unimproved.

What was the purpose in the turn donkbet, other than wanting to experiment with turn donkbets?

Against an EP open you have to realize that his range is going to be very Ace heavy. So x/c the turn and x/f the river is a better line.

I like the turn bet better if we don't have a hand with showdown equity. So it's pretty bad if we get raised so we can just c/c again since we're so strong. I think betting the turn with say 89 or 9T that didn't turn backdoors is better.

Here's why betting this turn is good. We have 78o/56/666 (ep might fold that but prob not) etc. Sure we don't have many aces but this turn hits us pretty well.

Agree turn is a call, we wanna close out the action here on a good board for our opponents range, these stop and go type plays work really well when we don' think our opponent hit the board very often.

I am also curious what's the ultimate purpose of leading the turn? Do you want to fold out stronger hands?
