I'm wondering if this should be a fold. The hand in question was at a live tournament, my opponent is a better than average player that I have some history with. In this hand we are playing about 100 blinds deep.
Blinds: 25/50
Hero: 7000
Villain: 7000
Preflop: Hero raises to 125 UTG with A
Q
Villain 3Bets to 525 from SB
Hero calls
Everyone else folds.
Flop: J
9
2
Villain checks
Hero Bets 375
Villian Calls
Turn: 6
Villain checks
Hero checks
River: 5
Villain bets 1700
Almost a full pot bet, but I figure he isn't betting JJ or 99 almost full pot with three spades on the board, I'd expect more of a half pot size bet if he had one of those hands. A straight is out of the question, as I haven't seen this player get out of line and 3Bet preflop with suited connectors. Also, a straight would have a similar bet size of a set on this board, with a flush on the board. So really he's repping a hand like A
K
that could have floated the flop with two over cards and a backdoor flush/straight draw, or have a hand like K
Q
with a backdoor flush draw, two overs and a gutshot to a T. Either seem like viable hands in his range. From my past experience with this player, he often puts his chips into the pot when involved in a pot.
Anyways, I tank for about 2 minutes, and the entire time he's having casual conversation with the player next to him (not that I go for live reads). I eventually make the call and he rolls over K
Q
.
My question is: are there better hands in my range that can call with here? I don't have any spade blockers and I block some of his missed straight draws, so for that reason I think this call was incorrect in the long run, even if I scooped the pot this time. Thanks for the help.
