Chip EV vs ICM EV Chip EV vs ICM EV

If you are familiar with ICIMIZER you know that there are options to analyze hands in either CHIP EV or ICM EV.

Since in early/mid stages the ICM effects are negligible at point of lets say a 300people tournament where first 45 people get paid do you start calculating hands in ICM EV as opposed to CHIP EV?

Use Chip EV early to mid stages, use ICM EV around significant pay jumps and at final tables

I'd guess around 46-50 maybe 55 players?
And then whenever another pay-jump is close.

Interesting question!

Is there ever a reason to use chip EV instead of ICM EV? The ICM EV is irrelevant early on, but that just means you should get the same results using ICM EV as you do using chip EV. It doesn’t mean that the ICM EV is wrong, or am I missing something?

For those scientifically minded, isn’t this kind of like asking if NASA should use Newtonian mechanics or relativity to calculate space craft trajectories. Relativity will give the right answer in all situations; Newtonian mechanics will do so in a more limited set of situations. It’s not wrong to use relativity when Newtonian will do, just needlessly complicated.

Honestly...just use chip ev except at final tables basically as a quick rule.
