Biggest differences between low and midstakes? Biggest differences between low and midstakes?

Hello,

I'm currently playing online MTTs (gg and party) with buyins between $5 and $20. In these stakes, I am doing really well with a 55% ROI over 2k tourney sample. Mainly play small field turbos, with some big guarantee ones mixed in.

Now, I am trying to shot-take and play more $30-50 tournaments. Can someone with more experience share what the key differences between these stakes are? Any tips for what to do differently?

My playstyle is fairly tight, mostly focusing on exploiting fish and picking up dead money pre-flop. I'm a winning rec player, playing mainly for the challenge and love of poker, so bankroll management tips are not needed.

There's more 3betting so you'll need to 4bet lighter sometime to accumulate chips. They'll also defend more properly.

Thanks that is super helpful. I know that higher stakes players often 4bet hands like A5s, or 4bet shove AJ/KQ on BTN vs a SB 3bet, but I don't do this often because low stakes players are just not 3betting enough to make it worthwhile.

Yeah, basically that. Also you don't wanna just go ape with those light 4bets just cause someone 3bet you a few times in a few orbits as well. It's something you can balance in regularly at X frequency and if they're getting out of line (again make sure it's legit they're OOL not just running hot since it could go light 3b, value, value in 2-3 orbits potentially) you can adjust the frequency a bit higher.

One thing that'll be more effective also is double barrels since they'll be properly mixing in floats etc. So make sure you have balanced ranges (protect check ranges and make sure to have hands that realize turn equity etc).

I'd say to do a proper study of player tendencies before moving up, hire someone or do it yourself, the field roughly the same but you start to face people who are playing very explotative strategies that you might want to know how to counter exploit them (specially russians, brazilian and other team stacked players you might find). Besides it just play your ranges, keep studying and be prepared to move down if it's needed, no shame on that but your mind may tricky on the first time. Cheers
