19 players left, the Big $1,10

we're dealt AhQh and raise utg 2.3bb. SB fc, BB folds.

I decided to bet the flop for value, to get any worse Qx with me. OTT I shove because I didnt want to give him good call odds price for maybe J9 J8 KJ KQ.

What do you guys think about this play? Standard play ? or could I play different and save my chips ?

SB: 2,376,197 (39.6 bb)
BB: 1,072,324 (17.9 bb)
Hero (UTG): 1,739,976 (29 bb)
MP: 538,064 (9 bb)
CO: 3,334,830 (55.6 bb)
BTN: 1,143,081 (19.1 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with Q A
Hero raises to 132,000, 3 folds, SB calls 102,000, BB folds

Flop: (361,500) T Q T (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets 173,520, SB calls 173,520

Turn: (708,540) 2 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets 1,428,206 and is all-in, SB calls 1,428,206

River: (3,564,952) K (2 players, 1 is all-in)

There aren't many worse Q in his range - maybe KQs/QJs. If he's flatting from the SB his range is going to be pretty narrow - maybe some middle pairs he doesn't want to 3b (88/99) and some suited connectors. Lots of those hands connect with the board (JTs/J9s/T9s/QTs). The problem is he has several Tx hands that crush you, and lots of his other hands have good equity. You don't block any diamonds, which is a bad thing.

So when you shove the turn for 2x pot, what's going to happen? He's folding the few hands you crush (lower pairs or anything that whiffed) and calling with all the hands that crush you or have good equity.

The problem with checking behind is there are so many bad river cards - basically any diamond or 8-K (except Q) we don't want to see. So I think this might be a good bet/fold spot.

On flop we get called by some A high hands with gut shots, pairs like JJ and 99 that call one, some flush draws and obviously T.

Rly don't think the shove, doesn't really achieve much, we would get the same result with a bet

What Ax gutshot hands would villain be calling with in the SB? I guess I could see AJs and maybe A9s but there aren't many Ax hands at all in his range.

Aj and A9 like you said, important to keep these combos in when discussing why we cbet for value on flop.

He rivered me with KQo.

and the stupid thing is he won the tournament for $500!

What did I wrong here? Why cant I get value from worse and win the tournament?

+1

checking flop or turn seems standard here, i would pbb cbet flop and check turn generally speaking since i dont really like to be raised on this turn when i doublebarrel. so im checking for pot control and to protect other parts of my range here with pbb everything.

this is the type of flop texture that should be in your delay cb range. As its tough to get x3 streets from worse and we want to minimise the pot the times he has the 10. If he leads turn and river we can call twice

Everyone already gave a good answer so i will just say to your question about why cant you win? Well...you did quite well to run that deep, just keep at it and apply what you learn. Keep up the good work.
