This is not a cooler, just bad play from you.

Why on earth are you check raising flop? Would like to hear your thought process.

Leading turn for small sizing seems less then optimal as well. Calling of the shove I am not a fan of either, unless we got reads on V and can assume he is capable of bluffing this spot or overvaluing 1p type of hands.

It doesn’t look to me like you are thinking in terms of ranges, otherwise you would probably not taking these somewhat adventurous lines.

Posting your thought process usually helps people to get a better understanding and can lead to a more productive discussion.

So the reason I c/r flop is because my only showdown value is a pair of 4s which will never realize its equity. So my plan was just to check raise and take the pot there, and then give up if he continues. Its only after I got the A on teh turn that I had no idea how to preceed. But calling with a pair of 4s seems like a bad play, what runout am I hoping for?

A4 should call flop, but something like 63s should reraise so A4 plays ok as a reraise and in a slightly different spot similar A4 mid pair is part of reraise range so not a big mistake there. A4 plays ok as a call, because theoretically villain should bluff very often when turn is A and they should also triple barrel most AX for value. Defending BB is kind of complicated, A4 should often call 2 bets and sometimes opponent will just check down and than Hero is likely to win.

Prefer to 3b this hand pre or just call fold, depending on how wide he is opening. You'll play a lot of pots where you get value-towned for multiple streets against better Ax, he'll give you very little when you flop an ace and he has a pair, and it's hard to continue on missed boards. Why would a pair of 4s on the flop never realize equity? Do you only call down top pair or better fearing he 3 barrels and you can't see a showdown? When you check raise here you probably fold out his bluffs that might bet another street, and you get called by better hands. You easily make more profit just calling two streets than check raising.

I definately dont agree with your statement claiming you never realize your equity with a pair of 4s. There's a lot of barrels that you're ahead of. I would probably just call it down if he barrels 3 times. Check-raising when you hit your 2 pair is also fine, but i dont really like the checkraise on the flop.
