Hi,

After playing this hand, I was unsure about the way I played it. Should I even have called preflop considering my stack size? As for the flop, I was fixated on going all-in and didn't even register that his CB size was small, I could have just called.

Anyway, here's the hand:

PokerStars - 3500/7000 Ante 875 NL - Holdem - 3 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 19.63 BB
Hero (BB): 9.84 BB
BTN: 33.53 BB

3 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.87 BB) Hero has 8 9

BTN raises to 2.2 BB, fold, Hero calls 1.2 BB

Flop: (5.27 BB, 2 players) J T 6
Hero checks, BTN bets 1.9 BB, Hero raises to 7.52 BB and is all-in, BTN calls 5.62 BB

Turn: (20.31 BB, 2 players) K

River: (20.31 BB, 2 players) 8

Hero shows 8 9 (One Pair, Eights)
(Pre 40%, Flop 32%, Turn 32%)
BTN shows J Q (One Pair, Jacks)
(Pre 60%, Flop 68%, Turn 68%)
BTN wins 20.31 BB

It's fine - there is definitely some fold equity on the flop so shove >call - preflop fine too

You can prob just open jam the flop instead.

A while back, I think I would have folded preflop due to being short stacked but I've seen ALLinPav do these calls with an even shorter stack and I started doing the same. Is it the correct play?

yes - mandatory call when pot odds are so good vs wide button range

I like open jamming the flop better than x/r

Figured I could either get a free turn card or get some chips from my opponent before going all-in. If I just shoved, he might have folded

Def calling pre. OTF the EV between x/shove or openshove should be really close. If the V is of the autocbetting variety, I prefer x/jam over openshove, but w/e it's closed. Well played ul.

Also lolled at "We want them to fold."

What's funny about wanting them to fold when we have 0 showdown value and 8 outs when called? I honestly don't get it.

I like the x/jam flop, unless V has a low cbet frequency.

V calling range is pretty similar whether you open jam or x/jam, I think. He's never folding any T or J either way, but you win an extra 1.9bb when he folds his Ax that missed and maybe even low pairs.

Fold is close to call. AI pre is suicide.

This call is like "Stop and GO". On this flop you must go AI. I mean with "donk" bet. Just shove OTF, don't check. As played, you must call, you don't have any other option. I mean vs this size.
You can check shove with pair...
