[ Bounty Builder] Weird spot with KJs in 3-bet pot [ Bounty Builder] Weird spot with KJs in 3-bet pot

Hi all,

I might be just a total n00b but in the following hand ($33 BB) I decided to call a 3-bet with KJs. My reasoning was:
* Always folding to a 3-bet with such a hand is probably exploitable (and I need to mix it up)
* We were deep enough (50 BB)
* I would have position postflop

At the turn I assumed when he bets again I'm behind his range, and I don't have enough stack left to push and get enough Fold Equity of better hands. So maybe my assumption 50BB is deep enough was wrong, and I should just keep folding this preflop.
All in all (not all-in) it feels I completely misplayed the hand, hitting top pair and folding, loosing ~15BB in the process

I had no specific reads on the BB at this point, we were at the same table shortly. I should add this was in a very late stadium of the tournament (5 hours into it, 1000/2000 blinds) which changes play a bit. There were more 3-bets and more aggressive play than at the start of the tournament.

PokerStars - $15+$15+$3|1000/2000 Ante 300 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BB: 57.24 BB (VPIP: 25.00, PFR: 8.33, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 13)
Hero (UTG+1): 50.74 BB

9 players post ante of 0.15 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.85 BB) Hero has K J

fold, Hero raises to 2.6 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, BB raises to 8.2 BB, Hero calls 5.6 BB

Flop: (18.25 BB, 2 players) T 2 J
BB bets 9 BB, Hero calls 9 BB

Turn: (36.25 BB, 2 players) 2
BB bets 18 BB, fold

BB wins 36.25 BB

Any advice?

Interesting. I'm definitely calling the turn here and re-evaluate on the river. I don't think we can call a third bullet on a blank river.

I'd fold pre. When an unknown 3bets your EP raise from the BB, he's usually very strong. Not many players would bluff here with little history. Even good regs aren't 3b-bluffing enough here. You only have 15 hands on him, but his stats of 25/8/0 already hint that he might be a loose-passive call station type player. These players almost never 3b-bluff, especially from these positions. Most hands players would choose to 3b-bluff in other positions have an easy call here in the BB since he's getting a good price and is against a strong range. His sizing is also pretty big, over 3x, so even though we have position postflop, he'll be able to get stacks in by the turn. KJ is easily dominated by a value range, so we have some reverse-implied odds here when we hit one pair. I would be really careful flatting 3bets that are over 2.5-3x. We lose so much longterm when we flat bigger 3bets and fold flop.

Thanks for your advice.

It also felt to me the biggest mistakes was preflop. Against his range I'm too weak to raise on flop or turn and I think overall the postflop play was fine.

If he ever has AK/AQ or 3b bluffs (if he has bluffs pre) in his flop cbet range, you can't fold IMO. If I ever get to the turn like this, I don't fold.
