I have doubts about how to play low pairs from UTG and especially when I have between 20 and 30 BBs.
Should I fold preflop? at a table with standard players.

It's good to say that most of the tournaments that I play are PKO
ty.

Would love someone else more experienced to answer this as I seem to find myself in similar situations all the time with 22-55. For the most part, with 20-30 BBs I've been throwing them away.

UTG I'm generally opening 77+ full ring. 6max I'll widen this and open up 22+.

I would just muck the 2s until you're about in the HJ. If you're opening 2s, you're really just hoping to take it down preflop or on the flop.. in other words, it's a bluff with low postflop equity. You really need a miracle to have someone else flat, a 2 come, and to get value from it.

Pokersnowie recommends folding almost all low pocket pairs (in cash no less) until the BTN.

I would say using a normal range, you can open 55+ UTG in 6 max.

Third. Raising low pairs from early position on a 20-30bb stack is high risk, low reward.

If you open 22 UTG, you will also need to open with a chit ton of suited connectors also. Otherwise you are just bluffing with a hand that plays awful post flop. Your ranges should be continuous and rational, not polar.

You could make the case for playing these some percentage of the time though, right? Not that it would be practical, but say, 5% of 22-55, random SC mixed in

Sure, that would work. But 98 suited plays even better so should be mixed in more, or at least as often.

So if that seems to wide, then 22 is equally wide.

Also, to have mixed strategies preflop is debatable. Usually this would be to reduce a combo below the frequency that it is dealt, which is not necessary when that holding is +EV to open raise with.

Mixed strategies are required in some post flop scenarios, especially when multiple actions are ~equal EV.

55+ UTG on 20-30bb seems ok. I wouldn't mind being a little tigther if you want to. I think goldfishshark is right on the money with opening 22/33 in the HJ on 20bb. Probably opening 44 in mp1.
