Most of the study i've done so far in my poker career has been through training sites and software. Never really read a poker book as such.

So im looking for suggestions on where i might start. Looking at playing mostly 9/18 turbos in 2015.

So far im thinking:

Will Tipton - Expert HUNL holdem
Matthew Janda - Applications of NL

I remember Kill Everyone being really eye opening when i read it but that was like 5 years ago so not sure how itd hold up today and at your level.

Yeah thats the problem im having with my research. Alot of older books im not sure about thier current relevance.

Any suggestions on good training site would be appreciated also

Also older but I see that all the NLHE concepts are in there and does a very good job in setting up a solid all-around foundation to your understanding of no-limit play.

I'm reading Kill Everyone at the moment and it's really good.

It's not where you'd want to start and not particularly applicable to STTs but it's obviously full of gold. Obviously, everyone should have read Theory of Poker because it really is the bedrock of understanding the game.

I'm just getting into the 2 books OP listed and so far they seem solid

ok cool. thought about to pick it up and start fresh on my book study.

I want to take Poker more seriously this year and want to take my time studying and also would like to get some advice which books to pick up. I'd like to learn about all the important fundamentals and then go on to the specifics if you know what i mean. I plan to build a BR with 6max/HU SNGs and would like to move on to cash (NL50).

What should I get to start?
Theory Of Poker & NLHETAP for fundamental understanding i guess?
For SNGs I've read Colin Moshman's work is a must read. Is that correct?
In terms of HUSNG I've downloaded Mersenneary's Ebook.

moshman is a must for stt IMO.
That book paid for itself many many times over for me. Its the best starting point for learning stt strategy. It maid me a consistent winning player overnight.
A great base to build your stt game on.
You simply have to read it!

I have to agree. That's book alone will make you a winning player at low stake SNG's as long as you apply the concepts to your game. This would be the first book I would read.

Moshman has his flaws but he does provide a good basis. Just ignore the charts and **** and understand that it's not the final word. Some of his hand examples are simply wrong but as long as you get that you're just learning the broader concepts, you'll do okay.

yeah ive read greg jones book. crushing online sit and go's. Its very good but wish id read it a bit sooner would of had some super valuable gems just 3-6 months earlier.
he has an approach which im sure if you follow it you would be profitable. He basically advocates using wiz or similar to construct your own charts for your own game. And he advocates the construction of pivot points to make your decision in game quick easy and effective.
I only play 2-4 tables so I have more time in game and don't feel the need to develop charts, and I feel it could possibly hinder my development.
This approach is better suited to more multi tabling players and I think it would be a valuable read to such players but his approach requires work on your part. Its sort of half book half training course.
He's clearly put a lot of work into it.
