So I had this situation deep in the 500K on PartyPoker. Villain is opening a bit wide, had around 25 vpip and 20 pfr. What to do on this turn, continue with the story or slow down? Input on preflop/flop play is also welcome

To start with, Hero can't be UTG unless this is a table where people bet out of order. Is perhaps Hero the button? If so, most other players are slightly mislabeled.

If so, I'm not sure why Hero is raising with 44 preflop. Even if Villain is loose, most of his range plays well against your small pair. (98s is somewhat better for him than AKo). In fact, you're likely to have a harder time putting him on a range if the board brings overcards and doesn't help you.

By contrast, he wasn't offering you a bad price to call and set mine, maybe with one of the blinds coming in. And a nitty fold by you gives the blinds a chance to go to war in a situation that you wouldn't mind watching.

The flop bet would be fine if you had a deeper stack and could steadily turn up the pressure without going broke on later streets. Here, you paint yourself into a corner pretty fast. As is, I'd shove the turn and hope some aspect of my story got a fold.

But I'd be happier not getting so committed either preflop or beyond.

30 BB deep, I just jam here with small pocket pairs. It's hard to play them postflop at these stakes, and villain is almost certainly opening wide enough where a jam is profitable.

As played, I'd jam the turn. You've turned your hand into a bluff, and most of villain's range are medium pairs that he'll have to fold.

You can't flat to setmine profitably 30 BBs deep. This is a 3bet bluff or fold.

I'm going to assume this is BTN vs HJ.

I wouldn't shove 30bbs with 44 here. I'd probably shove 66-TT and flat 22-55. Flatting is fine because you can get better implied odds from players coming in behind.

Flop bet is fine. OTT I'd just check and try to get to showdown.

SB and BB each have 15 BBs. I don't play on PartyPoker, so maybe flatting from the blinds at those stacks is common over there, but if they're any good, they'll be reshoving a lot more than flatting, which makes our flat pretty awful.

Fair point. Just fold pre then. Jamming probably isn't too bad though. I might plug this into HRC when I get home.

I think jamming is fine vs. CO, but it looks like villain might actually be in MP, in which case it's a fold.

Yeah, VS CO it's probably fine. I assumed it's vs HJ or LJ.
