$150 tournament 13 players left - top 4 pay. 6 handed in my table 10k/20k blinds. I have 7.5 Bb.

Hero UTG shoves 77 and loses to 1010 in BB. Most stacks are 7-10bb deep.

Was my shove the right play here given I’m only really being called by better? Makes sense given my stack size and a short handed table..

Easy shove with your stack and position. You're not even close to the money either so there's no ICM pressure to worry about.

You could be called by AQ, AK and maybe KQ. You are flipping (with odds slightly in your favor in those cases). Obviously bigger pairs are a possibility as you found out. The main reason that you shove a spot like this is fold equity. You probably are an underdog when called, but you often will not be called. Adding that 1.5 BB (plus any antes if there are any), is a very significantly positive result for you. You also cannot afford to wait around much longer for a hand. At 7.5 BB you still have fold equity. If you wait?, maybe post blinds and lose them and possibly there is an increase in blinds, you might be looking at a 2-4BB stack by the next opportunity to shove. You will obviously have quite a lot less fold equity and you might well be forced to shove a weaker hand if you wait.

6 handed this is a clear shove. I probably shove with 44+. But that doesn't mean its going to end well.

My problem is UTG 9 or 10 handed with 66-88. I still do it short stacked but I do get called a lot by better pairs.
