Hi there,

I have a teenage son who has gotten into poker and I've set him up with his own online account to play micro stakes tourneys. He has a decent grasp of the basics but he wants to take his game to the next level. He needs to learn more about concepts like thinking in ranges, ev, bet sizing, and so on. So I was thinking of buying him a membership to a training site for the holidays.

The question is which one would best meet his needs. Ideally it would be one that is well organized and not overwhelming, and has a selection of videos that are shorter in length to fit his teenage attention span.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Not sure it’s a good idea to get a young teen into gambling though. Seems a little like meh parenting if you ask me but maybe I’m wrong.

OP could have meant 18/19 year old, they only specified "teenage". If younger, the endeavour would be not only "meh parenting" but illegal.

First of all, poker isn't gambling. It's a game of strategy.

Second, what percentage of people who currently play poker do you think first played the game before they turned 18? I'm guessing the percentage is quite high.

Hey Darth Maul, have you narrowed down your choices for this? I've recently made the effort to pursue more learning in Poker. I've played for years, but I have really been lacking in terms of a poker network for collaboration, as well as not putting in as much time learning in relation to playing.

I've been seeing sales for alot of the training sites/products around this time of year, so Black Friday or Boxing day could be a good time for me to start some training.

Yeah, I think I'm going with TPE - partly for Andrew Brokos but mainly because they actually allow you to download up to 30 videos/month to watch on your own time. That's a huge advantage for rec players who are normally pretty busy.

Also you and your son wanna lose the idea that more money means satisfaction. Gamblers typically want more money and when they lose they ain't satisfied. This doesn't just apply to a game of chance and skill like poker/blackjack/sports/horse racing but even a job/business/stocks/real estate investing.
