I have 33 BB in a tournament. There's around 400 people, I'm around 200, and only the top 40 get paid. I'm the BB.
I get KsTd. UTG+1 raises to 2.3. I raise to 5.

- Flop is 5s6sJs
- I bet half pot.
- UTG+1 calls.

- Turn is 4d.
- Checks around.

- River is Jd.
- Checks around.

This hand is fold preflop with 33bb and a raise in front of you. It's tough to comment on the rest.

that makes sense. I wanted to be aggressive and it did not pay off.

I think you want to 3b with a better hand than KTo. You also min raised and you are never getting folds from hands like KJ or At and your hand becomes very difficult to play. You can make it 6.6bbs and fold to a shove but I think you will find better spots.

I'm going to go Socratic here for a minute: What is the purpose of your raise and how does the size you chose reflect that?

OP is in the big blind. I'd just defend 99% of the time.

I'm not too fond of the three-bet preflop from the BB with a hand like KToff. If UTG pushes, you are not going to be able to realize your equity. Also, when UTG calls, your going to be dominated a lot of the time, UTG is going to push with hands like AK, KK, QQ, maybe JJ, and some bluff like A5s (rarely but possible), UTG calling IP range is something like AQs, Ajs, ATs, A9s, A8s, KQs, KJs, K10s, QJs, Q10s, J10s, 109s, 98s 99, 88,77,66,55. You will be dominated by AQoff, KQ, and KJs, and A10. I prefer to call preflop. By calling, you widen your preflop range considerably, allowing you to pressure the opponent post-flop in some textures. By three betting Pre you reduce your range considerably and make your range very strong, probably forcing you to "empty the magazine".

Preflop 3betting this hand at very low frequency (10% or less) may be ok. However, in low stakes live poker most players open a very tight range EP, and fold very infrequently to 3 bets, which makes 3betting KTo from the BB when you can just call a very bad play against these players, since you're essentially hoping for them to fold when you raise this hand. Also, if you're going to raise, you'll want to go with a bigger size in the ballpark of 7-8 BB.

Generally speaking, I think when you have the offsuit Asx and Ksx, these hands are going to make your best bluffs. So on flop I'm guessing there's 11.5 bb in pot if there's an ante, I think I like betting 3 bb, 17.5 bb on the turn with 25 behind bet 8 bb, river you should have a half pot shove.

If you 3 bet to 7 bb, there'd be 15.5 bb in pot on the flop with 26 bb behind and then you can make it a two street hand which I like a little more.

BUT - I wouldn't 3bet this ever at low stakes live poker unless you knew the opponent was a GTO wizard.
