Taxes on EPT winnings Taxes on EPT winnings

I wasn't sure where to ask this question so if it's in the wrong section please move it to where it belongs.

I recently found out that for tournaments held in Las Vegas, non US citizens who reside on countries without a Tax Treaty with the United States must pay 30% of their winnings in taxes when their profit exceeds $5,000.

I wanted to know how the tax system works for tournaments outside of the US, mostly EPT, LAPT, and the other Pokerstars major live tournaments. Do you get your winnings directly or do you get a part of them cut off for taxes?

Thank you.

I believe EPT you are responsible for your own taxes. LAPT some of the countries withhold, others don't

Depends on where are you from, if you're from EU countries you just have to pay regular income tax.

Hi four,

EPT withholds nothing. As a player, you are responsible for your own tax obligations. For LAPT or APPT I'm not sure. You can ping LAPT Thomas on here or fleung22 for Asia Events.

Congrats on winning enough to have to worry about taxes

Cheers,

Hi

What worries me the most is the host country taxing foreigners.

Finland taxes 0% from winnings inside the EU. But what about the EU country they host the tournament in?

I know that US is forever out the question, as they will tax 30, and Finland would tax 51%
