I'm looking forward to buying a new comp dedicated to poker as I'm sick of 8-12 tile-tabling on my laptop.

As I believe my actual environment is absolutely -EV, I'm looking forward to getting:

- 2x 21"+ screens. My eyes get tired on my tiny screen especially when on FTP. I believe I need the 2 screens to have one partly dedicated to all the external poker stuff: Tracker, OPR, AIM, Skype... amirite?
- Unit: Something almost exclusively dedicated to Poker and that can handle massive databases. XP or Vista? I think I know the answer. (Stfu Linux lovers...that's for you p3 )
- Mouse and keyboard: probably the new Logitech MX Revolution thingy. You got anything better?
- Good chair etc.
- I dedicated a place in my lounge and my desk is probably the only good thing. in my poker environment/setting.

I would be glad if you regs gave me some input on how you've set up your poker environment, which software you use or if you have any tips to give (the usual tile, cascade blabla stuff). Basically what you have found to make you play comfortably your optimal poker or what you're dreaming of having, to play poker in an optimal way (obv. you can always dream you had talent or skill )

I use Holdem Manager and will probably set up Stars hotkeys.
I always have Skype, AIM, Msn, HEManager, OPR, 2p2 forums a couple rail tables open.

edit: Almost always have some gin tonic on my desk. I quit smoking.

Well, while I am not a multitabling pro (barely a winning player, really) - I do spend a lot of time at my desk.

slight brag.

I have two Samsung 226BWs - 22" is really a great monitor size. You can get two Samsung 2253s for under $450 shipped and they're also a great monitor. Some people like doing a 30" in the center and then two 20" in a portrait orientation flanking it (for a three monitor setup), this is incredibly baller and gives you more screen than you know what to do with, really.

The most important part is getting good mounts. The pedestals that come with monitors are okay and tilt, pan, swivel and all that, but, I find that a good mount just ties the entire thing together.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824995006

I have that one. It's great.

Make sure that whatever computer you end up getting has a video card, and that you're not relying on the onboard video.

You will need multiple DVI heads to do multiple monitors.

Hope this little bit helps.

PS - I dunno a lot about chairs, but I do know I have the best one. Herman Miller Aeron. You should totally get one.

I started burning essential oils in an oil burner a few weeks ago. You can get oils that keep you mentally alert. seems to help when playing 9 hour sessions.

I have the dual 21/22" screens also, not sure what I ever did before. I have the resolution set at 1680x1050, which fits two Stars or FTP tables pretty much perfectly side by side, so then I overlap them down each side of the screen, up to about 6 tables per quadrant, keeping about half a screen free for browsing, chatting or w/e, but when too many tables get going (about 10+) I dedicate the entire screen space to the tables.

Was just thinking at your mention of hot keys, it would be nice to have an AHK script for betting 2.5x the BB so one doesn't have to type it but can just press the middle mouse key or something. Might go and investigate the software forums now.

I'm sorry if it sounds bad, I know you believe this works... but site unseen I'm 99.9999% sure that it's myth/bull****.

Why stop at 2 monitors btw and not get 4? Or does tiling work just fine?

I think the essential oil stuff is more like creating a nice atmosphere and that it does help you feel comfortable. When comfortable = easier to keep focused.
Some guys listen to music, some smoke, some drink, some other burn candles...

4 monitors may involve quite a lot of eye movement and may make your eyes bleed and get you a stiff neck pretty fast.

You know I have actually found that the type of music I listen to can have a big affect on my play. I grew up pretty much on punk and some hardcore, but while im playing poker its Dave Mathews Band, U2, John Meyer.......lol. For some reason the Pokercast/Poker Radio tilts the hell out of me while playing? My wife constantly walks by laughing at the music I listen to while playing.

O and sick setup Raz, def a brag.

I think interviews, esp. when rather complex with highly intelligent people, may distort too much when you´re m-tabling thus the tilt? I need to hear some simple slogans like "A man needs a maid" while playing. But basically any music will do (that I like obv) I´ve got this super awesome randomizing system so I don´t have to choose cd´s / vinyls myself.

sometimes i watch movies while i play, and its awful. just terrible. i need to stop that.

music is the way to go because for me its way less distracting than anything else...personally i like somewhat agressive music when i play, i can deal with anything that i like.
i won my first tourney online listening to this at top volume..

also, my setup kinda sucks. i have a 22" monitor, and thats pretty much the highlight. if i had to do it, and had the cash, id get a tv, something like 40", mount it in the corner behind my desk, and then get dual 22"s on my desk. the 40" for tv (for sundays ldo, nfl wtf) and a much sweeter chair in which i didnt have to bend about in... like one of those chairs you see those fat people in wall-e floating around in.

Fair enough... lots of peeps beleive this stuff has some chemical property or magical property and do it out of superstition. So long as we call a spade a spade I won't go mental

Fwiw I drink sometimes. This works well in 180's. I've found the 3R isn't geared well to this, cause after 4.5 hours I'm ****ing trashed!

I rock two 17" monitors that I culled from old PCs and a crappy card table chair that makes my back go numb in spots if I sit in it too long (which I pretty much do every day). I think I've probably made enough money to justify upgrading my set up, or at least investing in a new chair, but then again I'm a life nit.

24" LG on the left, 20" Samsung in portrait mode on the right. 90s and 180s go on the left in what could be best described as a random overlapping pattern - if I get deep in one I'll give it some space of its own near the bottom. MTTs go on the right with anything in rebuy period at the top. AIM chat box has its own little home at the bottom on the right because you goofy ****ers keep me from tilting.

My chair is destroying my back and will be replaced very soon. In fact I might go get a new one right now. Gatorade/Diet Mtn Dew/Sweet Tea/coffee "milkshake" (as coined by Dunk) are staples as well as cigs.

My computer itself is nearly 3 years old and is on its last leg, but I'm ordering a new one next week. Maybe some pics then.

I suspect that watching YouPorn in between hands is probably a big -EV, but I haven't run the numbers on it.

I have been experimenting with both (after my gf introduced me to it), but a good combination for mental acuity is something like cedarwood (base note), basil (middle note), and lemon (top note). There are lots of web sites and books with info about different combinations and their properties.

I actually figured that people were mostly playing on laptops with wireless conns. Just to facilitate bathroom breaks, smoke breaks, food, letting the dogs out, etc.
