Hello!

This hand has been torturing me. I would love to just know if this is pure stupidness or actually the correct play in this situation.

Field: We are 840 left from 10 087 players starting.
HERO: 12 BB on Button
CUTOFF: Raises light and covers me.

Reasoning: I understand that we might be dominated. But he would do the same with KQ, JQ, JT etc. Does that just make it a shove? Should I have folded anyway? I understand he is basically comitted - and there is a bounty - but I also think he would gamble with worse (and better) hands as my hand pretty much suck. Also - the blinds were showing tight tendencies which made me shove. I often feel like I "wait for the perfect hand" in MTTs which often leads me to blind off.

I really thank you for taking the time and giving me your thinking around the hand.

Don't like it in a bounty tournament.

You were unlucky in that you were actually behind BUT you were getting called 100% of the time and your hand is only a 60/40 vs a 100% range.

I guess it's fairly standard/good in non-bounty MTTs.

Ok. So what range is shoving even though it’s a bounty?

Appreciate more opinions

I disagree that CO will call you with their entire opening range. When the SB has 7bb CO can open wider than typical with the plan to call off everything vs SB and fold some vs you. I suspect both in theory and in practice your jam will have a non-zero amount of fold equity.

Regardless, either CO will call you with their entire opening range, giving you more equity in the all-in, or CO will fold some of the time, giving you less equity in the all-in but some fold equity. Both outcomes should show a profit if the player profile described in the OP is accurate.

good post, Asjbaaaf.

I just want to add as well to your second paragraph:

It's not easy to find 60/40 spots on a 12BB stack. If they're really calling anything they open with, then, as Asjbaaaf said, you get a lot more equity in the all-in even though you're at risk. And there's a long way to go in this tournament, so I don't think you can start worrying about passing up 60/40s because of ICM. Getting it in ahead and holding gets you back in the game and gives you more opportunities to win bounties yourself.

And I also agree that since he's opening wide, he might still fold to the 12BB shove more often than you'd think, while still planning to call the 7BB shove.
