and i'm out.

mini TR:

I play day 1d and get to my table extremely happy. There is maybe one guy under 30 besides myself. I win the first two pots and get up to 32k (turns out this was my tournament peak). I check the break order and it becomes pretty clear that this table will not break at all today. I'm in the 5 Seat (my personal favorite) and have a great view of a monitor right in front of me with ESPN on. I can't imagine a better start.

Then for some reason I recheck the break order and it says "Orange 78, Red high to low, Orange high to low...". I think to myself that's funny why does that table break. Then I look up and realize I am sitting at Orange 78. Turns out ESPN needed the space that the table was occupying. First beat of my Main Event. After the first level I had 25k in chips after I got rivered in a few pots and missed a huge draw. I still felt great. Finally, my table broke and I crossed my fingers for a good draw. Orange 90, nice. Phil Ivey, even better. I take the 9 seat while he sits in the 7 with mammoth towers of chips...already.

I call a bunch of his opens in position with pocket pairs under 7's and miss every flop. I just fold to his continuation bet every time. It's Phil Ivey, what am I supposed to do? He owns the table pretty much all day. I find a way to lose every pot. For 5 hours there was 1 (yes ONE) time where an opener that wasn't the Button or SB took the pot down without a flop. I tighten up and still manage to open and check/fold every pot I play. Truly miserable. I go into the last level of the day with 18k, sandwiched in between Phil Ivey sitting on 90k and Dutch Boyd sitting on 140k. Dutch is defending 63o from the blinds to Ivey opens. I can't figure out how to win a pot versus such stellar play.

At one point Ivey gets a water from the cocktail waitress and tips her $20. She tries to make change, and he waves her off. Phil Ivey doesn't need change.

The day is winding down and there are 3 hands left. I have 13k and a miserable 13k at that. My stack consists of 2 5k chips, 2 1k chips, and a few blacks. I mention that my bag will be very light at the end of the day. Ivey tells me to buy his green's from him. I oblige and buy 2k worth of 25 chips straight from the man himself. He tells me that not only will my bag be heavier but now I will have a little more force behind my all-in moves.

Of course the last hand of the night comes and I am in the BB. Couldn't be any other way. Dutch limps for 400 and 3 others come along including Ivey on the Button. I look down at 3c4c and check. Flop is Tc 6c 3d. Nice. Checks to Ivey who bets 1500 and I go ahead and make it 5100 hoping I get a cool story to tell either way. Everyone folds, including Ivey. I flash the 4c3c to Ivey and he gives me an approving nod. On to day 2 with 16k and feeling okay. I got to play with Ivey, and still have 30 bb's. There was hope.

I spend the off day at the pool. Life is good.

Day 2 rolls around and the only competent player at my table is JohnnyBax. He doesn't know me so I like that. He's in the 9 and I'm in the 1 seat. The Button starts in the 9 so I get to post the SB the first hand. Folds to Bax who raises and I just fold. Next hand on the Button I get red 6's and it folds to me, sweet. I make it 1300 and the SB calls. He has about 100k. Flop is T-9-4. He checks. I don't think I am going to win this pot if I check so I bet 1800. He c/r's to 4200. I fold. Sweet.

I fold my CO and next hand in the HJ it folds to me and I look down at 33. I open to 1350 and the Button calls. He's old and seems nitty. Pretty sure I'm smoked. Flop is QJT. I check/fold.

I fold for a little bit and look down at AQo UTG. I raise to 1400 with 12k more behind and get two callers. Looking to bink. Flop is J-J-J. Checks to button who bets 1800, I fold. Other guy slams his cards down in disgust, then calls. Turn is a blank (whatever that means) and the other guy check min-raises and takes it down. Flips over AJo and it's Jerky time.

I pay the blinds and am now down to 10kish. I fold for awhile. Finally I look down at AcKc UTG and just jam for 8500. I get called. All in and a call...he's got AKo. Board runs out nothing and we chop. Sigh.

I pushbot for a few orbits to maintain my stack. Finally folds to my CO and I look down at AQo and as the great Shannon Shorr would say, "had a very trivial shove for my last (insert chip stack)". It was 7950 to be exact. SB only has 200 out when it is supposed to be 250. He argues to the dealer for a minute about how he already thought he had put it out. Finally he agrees with the dealer and puts out the additional 50 chips. Then re-ships 30k and tables AKo when the BB folds. Classy guy. Flop runs out A-x-x-x-x with the X's all non paint cards and that concludes my 2009 WSOP. As I leave the guy tells me nice try. Not sure what he meant.

I went 0-something this WSOP. It is humbling, but I'll be back.

Is it just me or does this ME seem to have a lot of big name pro's building some big stacks?

To me, it just seems a lot more exciting to see the updates for this one.

Is it because of the deeper structure/more chips or just the way it's gone, do ya think?

Humberto Doubles in Style

There was some commotion over at Humberto Brenes' table. On a flop of {K-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}, Brenes bet 3,000 and his opponent raised to 9,000. Brenes tanked, but eventually had the clock called on him and the antics began.

The player that was involved in the hand was in seat seven. The player in seat eight said, "Humberto, shut the hell up." as Brenes was talking and putting on a show.

"Do you have a sponsor?" said Brenes to the player. "I have a sponsor." pointing to the patch on his arm. "This is about money and television means money from my sponsor." Brenes went on to say.

"Shut up and just act." said the player in seat eight.

Brenes then explained to the floor, "You count down the clock and I'll say 'All in!' when you say three, then two. You have ace queen? You have jack ten? If you have jack ten you have four outs -- I mean six outs. But you have ace queen, ace queen."

The floor counted down from the last ten seconds on the clock and when he got to three Humberto announced that he was all in. It was only a few hundred more and the player called. The player showed {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} and Humberto burst out. "I told you ace queen, I told you ace queen!" as he pointed to the player and to the camera. He then tabled {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}.

The turn brought the {4-Spades}. "It's not coming! It's not coming for you!" preached Brenes. The river was then the {2-Diamonds} and that was it, Humberto celebrated with his hands in the air and earned the double up.
No one in poker makes me ill quite like Humbertooooooooo.

Yeah, pretty sure it was him. Didn't get a chance to talk to him since I busted within the first hour. Was hoping it was the Rob Tepper that sang "No Easy Way Out" from Rocky IV.

He was listed as at 300,000 on pokernews (showing that he went up by 220k). Apparently it was a misprint though. He is now at 22,600.

Anyone has the payout sheet/structure of the event?

You should probably crosspost this in the Ivey thread in NVG since he seems to play a major part in the content.

pretty sure he knows you, he didn't know you when we played together deep day 1 in the 2k or 1500 real early in the series when you knocked him out 88>KQ. but we were together again a couple days later and he knew who you were then.

I showed up to my 19-handed table and they handed me a slip and sent me to some non-existent table in Amazon. I find floor, he says I'm at second feature table. FTP contract for $5k, cool. Get up there, oops wrong table. Floor has no idea where to send me. Eventually they send me to table in Brasilia that is full and they have no idea why I am there. Floor is dumbfounded. Finally they get on the walkies and direct me back to a table at Amazon and I get there just as the tourney is about to start. No penalty from day previous, by the way.

Eventually that table breaks and I get sent to the second feature table again next to Dennis Phillips and promptly bluff off 13k to him. I've been bouncing between 18k and 50k and am 25k on the dinner break. Double through Phillips please?

63k, is it just me or are the fish getting better? Could just be bad table draws
