Oops...
It's not a good day to be Leroy Soesman, he turned up today fully expecting to play on Day 1d of the main event and live the dream of winning the main event.

Except there was one slight problem.

He had bought in for day 1a instead.

Unsure if he has actually got through the day, Soesman is now working with a couple of members of staff to see if his stack made it through the day

event's so soft he probably got it to 40k

there is certainly legal implications of hiring your friend if someone is better qualified

there is legal implications of promoting someone you like versus someone better qualified

there is legal issues of being moved around on a waiting list without a clear cut process and asssociated rules

i believe this fits

If 6,493 is right, first place is ~$8.54m, the Nov. 9 would leave with ~1.26m

As hard as it is to believe, not everyone is a doctor and has ten grand burning a hole in their pockets.

By the time they raise it, or win it via satellite, or get it over here from a faraway land, pre-reg is over.

I'm only in my third year of law school, but

1 Nepotism is not illegal.

2 is simply not applicable because this is not an employer/employee context (i.e. contractual)

3 You have no claim because you offered no consideration. It's not like you put down a deposit (i.e. an options contract). This is far more analogous to you sitting in line at ghost bar and Diddy walking past you.

Wasn't there supposed to be a turbo mega-satellite today at 8 am. Does anyone know what happened to the people that won seats in that? I assume they didn't just give them lammers and expect them to try to sell them.

so bummed out for you GoldenBears.

The only remaining person I've seen that might've gotten in illegitimately is Joe Reitman.

Mixed stories from the morning's satellites. As I waited in line, some satellite winners were definitely marched right past me and got seats (as well they should have). Others were denied and forced to sell their lammers.

I heard some people say all satty winners got seats, and others say that some were locked out, I don't know which it was.

this is a product of a new payout schedule no? last year 1st was ~9m and 9th <1m.
07-06-2009 , 09:44 PM
Yes, those are the figures using this year's payout schedule, if 6,494 is correct. $61,043,600 should be the prize pool, although for whatever reason it's a few dollars off. 648 spots paying, first payout level is ~$21,362

Edit: A few dollars in this case is usually because of rounding, not thousands of dollars disappearing.

Last edit. 6,494 entrants, $61,043,600 prize pool, $8,548,435 for first, slightly above the $8,546,104 the 14% listed in the payout structure sheet. $21,365 for 648th.

I had a lot of other things to deal with last night- bank wires, stakes, phone calls, collecting money from the bank. I've registered on 1d in previous years and it has never been an issue- plenty of space whether it was the Brasilia room or the tent when they had that. 12,000 combined cap and numbers steady from last year. It was an issue that had been filed in the back of my mind as "not a problem" the same way as you don't pre plan for whether you're going to get to your hotel room and find you can't get in. Like I say, I had no inkling that they might be getting near the cap. There was nothing at the tournament registration area to indicate this. Why not have a noticeboard and pin the latest news up there to keep players informed? Obviously, we'll all know now for the future.

The idea that an extra 300 was unfair or would cause bad feeling is total bs. There was 150 or so at the Pavilion, consisting of the hardcore who were particularly keen and stuck around to hear an official announcement. Those plus any others who came back would have covered just about everybody who was determined to play.

The truth is they don't give a **** about us as players and they were taking the line of least resistance which caused the minimum of effort for them. Damn the integrity of the game. There was a guy there who was the manager of the Rio I think and all he could say was "You should have preregistered", with a smirk on his face. The place damn near erupted when he said that. His remark said it all really.

I have to contrast this with what John Duthie did last year at EPT London, when they added £1/4M, the numbers were over the 500 cap but he made sure everyone got to play as an alternate despite the Vic having alot less capacity than the Rio.

Kevmath, could you grab...say Admo...and you guys make a run at our Executive Branch in 2012? Awesome job, as usual.

So pissed after setting aside $3k for some prelims and my first WSOP then not be able to make it. This thread has been somewhat palliative though. GL everyone...esp Brad, Zima and any other ssmtt guys!

Maybe TJ will be upset enough to quit his position on the Players Advisory Committee and open it up to someone else.

In reference to ^^ Van Nguyen is Men's wife, Luke Patten's a veteran of the UK circuit. Gary Lent's been around of ages as well. Elias looks to be an older guy. That's about it.
